Get insurance, drive it home. I wouldnt cross any scales. Hehe

 

Good in Michigan with signed title! But what about New York? Just a guess but that would worry me!

 

Hunters Permit. Good for 2 months . 75 bucks . You can drive it anywhere without permits or numbers

Hunters permit is $68.75 apportioned all states…good for 45 days… and cannot be under any authority while driving.

 

I just did this. I kept a log book and went into every open scale. Just have insurance and a out of state resident trip permit from the state of purchase' DMV and you should be good to go. The big scale house told me it's a private vehicle as far as their concerned. They will try to ask you what your intention is with the truck, just tell them you just want to get it home to work on it more to your liking and eventually get it on the road. Don't tie yourself into a carrier then there's no real jurisdiction over you. It's a private vehicle. Do have the bill of sale and signed over title on hand to prove that. I was told to leave the scales and have a good day, no permits needed and no need to stop at any more scales in that state. OOIDA suggested buying trip permits in every state but I'd go straight to the scales and see if that's necessary,,, if you keep your truck out of their jurisdiction (commercial) then your smooth sailing... But if you be like " oh yes I'm going to lease it on @ so and so" then you just VOLUNTERED your commercial status, putting yourself in their jurisdiction now needing permits logs and etc

But that was for me: New York might be a little different... But I tell you what,,, I really over thought the whole thing, I drove back almost 1500 miles no issue at all
