The company I work for is based in Wisconsin, I live in southern Michigan. Most carriers do.

Not a problem. My hubby drives for a Mississippi company and he was hired in California and now we reside in Nevada. I do believe that some Washington drivers have had a little difficulty because of the overtime lawsuit that is going through the courts.

A "Truck Driver" ad was placed in the help-wanted section of the St. Joseph/Benton Harbor newspaper. I called the 800 number because the name of the company did not appear in the ad. It turned out to be a company hauling containers from the many rail yards in Chicago, and I was not interested although they tried to convince me that everything had changed since I was in it twenty years earlier.

I asked why they were trying to hire drivers in the Benton Harbor area. Logs showed their drivers taking eight-hour breaks at Benton Harbor. The company concluded those drivers would be at home if they lived there.

From what I've seen, most companies will put up a map of their general hiring area on their websites. It seems to be that you need to live within a certain distance from one of their terminals.

Many, if not most, bigger companies hire nationwide. Like keb1209 said, the ones that don't should have a map on their websites or in their brochures. Living in Little Rock should be almost a slam-dunk for you. A LA company should have no problem with hiring an AR driver.
