so I was looking at a prostar it has def . I run my truck 24 hours a day most time . I hear idle is builds up soot in dpf but also heard the def solves that problem .
any input on this would help as I do not want to buy a truck that is going to be worthless to me soon after

Amsoil bypass filter will help with the soot. Bmk30 is the part number for the kit I think

Having the DEF does allow the engine to use less EGR, which in turn puts less soot back into the system, but it is still there. The main problem with idling is that the exhaust temperatures are too low for the soot to be burned off while operating. So either the DPF has to request a regen during your idle time, or it will do it first thing while running down the road. After some period of time it will just get worse. You really can not idle that much without it catching up with you.
I'm up on the Canadian prairies. I don't need to idle at all at night as it's a decent temperature then. The winters are a challenge. I'll let it run pretty much all day while working, but it still gets shutdown at night all the way down to -30C (-22F). I have Webasto engine and bunk heaters to stay warm during winter nights. Below -30 I let the truck run at night, but it does do a regen about 8 hours later.

well that sucks as I like to be cold in summer and warm in winter . I rarely shut my truck off . never had any of this egr def dpf crap on a truck. think maybe I will just buy the 9400i with no dpf and get rid of the egr. did not really want it as I drove eagle for last year and they have no ac un less you like 63 to 68 degree air and high fan in bunks cuts out and overheats fuses . hot day is 71 and up in that truck .
the 9400i was looking at is pre dpf but has manual windows and mirrors and of course no ac worth a crap. but at least it will idle without causing me to go bankrupt and lose my truck.
sure liked the look of that 11 prostar but .....

I think it was rawze that said to punch a hole in the top of that filter so it could breath and put less crap back in oil and engine .
Is this what this amsoil filter does ?

Possibly! I haven't heard that one yet from him. I just know it's a big additional oil filter, has helped me out a lot, they're good for 80k miles, $50 a filter, and it filters down to .02 microns I wanna say

My 2000 9200i ac works just fine. I keep the evap and condenser clean. Mine has a York compressor not a sanden. Maybe that makes a difference. I did have to replace the fan motor and the resistor once. But if you fix it when it brakes seems to cool just fine.
