I cannot forget this one. It happened in 1970. At my first stop, I was backed to a dock and had to cut the seal on the 27' pup's roll door. I was kneeling on the dock while using a pen knife to cut the seal. When the seal was cut through, the knife stuck in my thigh. Ouch!

I've done too many dumb things to even think of possibly listing them all. However, it's probably not too smart to drive 20k pounds overgross; drive over 5 ton bridges at 40 tons; drive 125 mph to see what it feels like in a truck; let the clutch out and go down a 7% grade in neutral; get on a busy freeway going the wrong direction; come up to a bridge whose signs you ignored before you got there showing the clearance and realizing that you - aren't going to clear it; parking in front of fire hydrants; taking out numerous things such as mailboxes; posts; and other oddities; and I found out that trucks don't do too well trying to drive in or out of a water retention basin whose trip in and out of the thing was at a 45 degree angle - about 100 yard longs. Although most people won't believe me, I actually had the front tires off the ground trying to get out of that basin. I tried going up it at 10mph, backed down, 20mph, back, 30mph, back, and finally at 45 mph, and the people that were with me screaming in terror, I got that GMC astro honking up that thing and yes, the front axle pulled off the ground - otherwise known as a wheelie - for about 2 seconds.

Well, there are a couple, at least, but I think the dumbest thing I ever did was bootleg a high load from L.A. to Detroit. I was trying to be slick and pocket myself a little extra by not fiddling with permits. I was dragging my dropdeck and had a boxed machine on that put me at about 14' 2", give or take. Well, I did okay until I got onto US 36 in MO and fond a rail bridge that was marked 13' 9". I just barely slid under that one with a few minor scrapes on the tarps. After that I had no problem until I got to MI and that's when things really started to fall apart. I ended up having to drop the air out of all my bags to get under the last overpass that I would come across where I even had a chance. I ended up making it to a T/S, I think it was the Truck City in Dearborn, where I found a steel hauler that got me out of there and to Flat Rock, where I delivered the machine without damage. I swore I would never haul another tall one without getting routed and permitted. Heavy or wide, on the other hand...

I was working for my uncle one summer driving a dump truck hauling dirt, i had done hauled 7 or 8 load that moring on the next load i backed up to dump the load i put the pto in gear and pulled the lever for the bed to come up be for i relized it all the weight of the dirt was at the back of the bed and i was looking stright up in the air. I forgot to release the tailgate. had to clean my pants after that one.And it is a hard fall back down when u release the tail gate when u r 20' up in the air.

I've done just the opposite. Forgot to latch the tail gate. At least it was in a pit. The loader operator got on his radio and asked me if I needed him to show me how to latch it. Then he asked if I would terribly mind getting my head out of my uh well, you get the idea.

    Life's embarrasing moments. . .

And as other have said here, that is just one of many.:biggrin_2554:

Well.... Having a curvy brunette laid across the doghouse of an 87 362 Pete. In her birthday suit. That wasn't dumb, but using my right front lug nuts to can-open that Pulsar sure was!

Didn't do anything to the truck but take off the lug nut covers. Didn't even scratch the wheel! The Nissan wasn't so lucky. My only 'at fault' in all these years. The only one that happened while moving, too.

And I don't remember ever getting to see that birthday suit in a moving vehicle after that, either. :)
