    That's parts. As for labor, it's called getting your hands dirty. A Detroit is EXTREMELY simple to rebuild. Seriously, they are so easy if you have ever worked on any car, motorcycle, or even a freaking lawnmower you could do it. The only specialty tool required is to set the injector height. Probably 50 bucks at apex tool co. And a quality torque wrench, and you can rent them if you didn't want to buy one.

    So I ended up getting a 2001 Volvo 660 with cummins n14, eaton autoshift with clutch and 3.55 rears. Will put it in the shop, spend few K and hopefully roll on my own when the warm weather comes

    GL .......but this is bad transmission; my last was 2001 Volvo 770/Detroit D60 auto shift (3 pedals), waste of time in shops, glitches loads abandoned, stuck in the middle of intersections lots $$ and time wasted;
    I would never again buy an automatic used truck;

    Freightliners are cheaper to fix then Volvo's. I'd never, ever, but another Volvo product. Parts are very expensive

    Well, you went with the Volvo and auto tranny. My buddy has a 770 with automatic transmission and it has given him 1.5 million productive miles. His tranny is terrible though. Once it warms up he starts losing gears. He just keeps on trucking though. Good luck with the Volvo. Still a great truck.

    Hey guys I'm new here, I'm not o/o I just a truck driver in south Florida, I drive a Volvo 670, nice ride smoother, an my boss also owns freighliners, indeed to drive them too, but with all my respect because off your experience an your knowledge, with the Volvo there is always something wrong, mostly off times electric problems, and the columbias has problems with the interior, but if I will buy a truck some day, it won't a Volvo, trust me it's a expensive starter truck, I won't chose the freightliner either, the bests trucks in the company are kenworths, with Volvo we always have to use the dealer, not with freighliner, I think it's a cheap truck, not high quality interior, but unless still running, so my opinion.

    volvo's are nice as a driver, you don't have to worry about the maintenance, just a enjoy the ride, but as an o/o different story...

    Older Volvo is as cheap to maintain as any other truck. Common engine, tranny, lots of aftermarket or used salvage yard parts. Newer trucks yes, harder to work on. But pre-egr trucks... Cmon, they are all the same
