I have been off the road for about four years taking care of my elderly parents. They have passed away. I'm thinking of getting back on the road . I still have my 2003 Pete 379. I used to stay out a month at a time. Not sure if I want to do that anymore. I've gotten used to living a more normal life. I am thinking of an out and back operation or southeast regional. I don't need to make big money and don't want to work all the time. But, I'm getting kinda bored and like being productive. I have considered containers and it seems my local grocery warehouse uses some contractors, but I haven't checked into either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I live in western NC . Asheville to be exact.

Sunbelt furniture xpress was a decent company a few years ago. Don't know how they are now. It's ltl furniture delivery, reload back to hickory area. Depending on how far out you go,out 2-4 days.

Thanks for the reminder. I had looked at them a few years ago. Never got a lot of info though. Furniture is light. I've hauled a few loads. Some of the stores are in town. Could be challenging. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks again.

Stay awsy from the mega carriers. They can haul the freight cheap and in return pay u a % of cheap freight.

Containers might work for me. I live a few hundred miles from some ports. But, I've met a few former container haulers I've heard stories of cheap, heavy , and problem chassis. Maybe there's a good company.
I am not really familiar with that segment of our industry. Thanks.

I drove for 20 years. I worked for JB ( sucked unbelievably ), MS Carrier ( lots of east coast ), then Crete, which was where I stayed for 18 years. They were really good in the '90 's.
So, I'm a mega company specialist.
I did try a small company here. Low $ and they didn't seem to have a concern for hos rules . I have bent some rules in my time. But one week they wanted me to run about 5100 miles in 6.5 days. I don't need that kinda stress.

I have my own authority and have pulled J B Hunt dry van for the past four months in the Southeast, mainly Florida and Georgia. The freight isn't too bad, they do pay both loaded and empty and detention after the first two hours. You will be home every weekend if you choose and I tend to get by the house a night or two during the week. I averaged 2500 miles a week between Atlanta, Jacksonville and Tampa area.
