We are looking at a reasonable second truck to use on the farm hauling grain, Ryder has one that has run locally hauling parts to GM, it has 935,000 km's on it, N14 set at 435hp with jake, 13spd, 12 & 40's, air ride, 176" wb, a/c, recent frame paint and steel wheels painted, 50% or better tires, certified and Emissions tested and guaranteed for 30 days, they want $18,500 Canadian for it, just wondering what you all think of Ryders trucks and maintainance and if this is a decent deal or not, thanks for all replies and answers.

Yes, I recently purshased a truck from them and 100% satisfied, the thing about any Ryder truck is that they have all records on hand . When I got mine they handed me the ECM report and full maintanance records from day one of ownership. Also another thing about them is that they keep most of their trucks under 70MPH. And their prices are pretty competitive, and the mileage is mostly in the 400,000 to 500,000 mile range and most of it are highway miles, also they give me a 30 day warranty at no extra charge. One thing that they may not tell you at Ryder is that you can look on line and find any truck anywhere from another lot and they will bring it to you, My cousin bought 3 from them and they brought them him.

Yep, Ryder is very big on maintenance. When I was driving for Dupont/Conoco, they were always very on top of keeping the trucks in top shape. In fact, it wouldn't hurt my feelings any to have the T-800 I used to drive for them and that was back in the mid 90s. The N14 in that thing ran beautifully!

    Apparently you worked for Sentinel?
Worked for them 1989-1996, in Egan La. (Crude oil gathering), then transferred to Victoria, Tx. terminal, working for the Dupont nylons plant. In 2000, they put the plant for sale, and I transferred back to La, Westlake terminal- crude oil, light oils, white diesel, and coke. Took an early retirement in 2002 to become a rich and famous owner operator. -
Still poor, but I am a little more famous!
Serousily, Sentinel was a pretty good company, I kinda got fed up with a couple of higher ups playing politics. Are you still with them?

No, I left Sentinel in '96. Wish I hadn't. It was a good place, even if Butch could be a little difficult. Egan, you say? They sent me down there for a month in '95 to help out. I loved it! They found out I was a mechanic and put me in the shop with ... ah, what was his name? Alan Welch. Great guy, he was. Do you know Tim Ryder? Another one, too, Jeff Murrel, I think. He was there at that time. I have pictures of them and the dispatchers, too. I feel bad I can't remember their names. Neat bunch of people. We might have met, me and you.

    Joetro,
I would bet we did meet, unless I had already left for Victoria, TX.
Mechanic was Allen Welch, now retired, I was the relief dispatcher who also worked for pipeline, grey hair, grey beard, 42 years old in '95. I trained Jeff Murrell, who is now dispatcher. Tim Ryder left also, (his second time). Can't remember which time, but he once quit on a Sunday when I called him to give him his dispatch. I don't hold it against him, supposedly had to start his new job the next day. He applied again at the Westlake (Lake Charles) LA. office in 2000 when they had transferred me there. He came in while I was at lunch, and didn't get to talk to him.

By any chance, are you the fellow that used to work out of Spokane? Went to a Gun Show in Port Arthur TX. while down here?

    Joetro Thanks this.

Yessir, that was me! I think I remember you now! I don't want to pop your name up here for everyone to see, so I'll get my 50 posts in and PM you. I believe I have a picture of you. I'll get it scanned so you can see it.
What a small world. I loved working down there and hated to leave. Hell, at that time of my life I didn't have a lot keeping me up here and I should have tried to transfer, but I liked hauling the cyanide, I guess. I kept trucking for several more years until I got hurt, then dispatched for a bit.
Believe it or not, I'm now an IT professional for a women's clothing retailer.
