I have an 07 Pete 379 with a CAT C15. Getting a check engine light with fault code 285-7. It only comes on after I take off and been on the road for about 10-15 minutes. Sometimes it'll stay on for 15 -20 seconds and other times it'll be 20 -30 minutes. It'll come on and go off 3 - 4 times a day. But when I shut the truck off and start it again the engine code is gone. I'm guessing maybe a bad or loose wire in the harness maybe?

IVA solenoid not responding on cyl. 1. Most likely a loose wire or connection, if you don't see anything obvious in the harness from the ecm up into the rocker box take off the front valve cover and see if the connector is loose at the IVA solenoid for cyl. 1. Cat makes a new pigtail you can crimp in because the problem is so common. If that's not it then you could have a bad solenoid or mechanical problem in the IVA housing.

If I take the front valve cover off will I have to replace the gasket?
-
No, it is reuseable by my guidelines.

There are 3 pigtails the middle on has 2 wires blue and red. The red one seems to have a splot in plastic coating on the wire. Will that cause the issue?

No thats your jake brakes, but definitely fix that too. Your #1 iva is the one all the way up front.
MinniesB Thanks this.
