Savannah is tanker heaven. Once you're through with the training company, consider going tankers. Easy money!
Should be able to easily make $60K pulling tankers. Most drivers make more than that.redoctober83 and Truckergirl2014 Thank this. -
Plus side- They have good equipment. I was given a brand new Cascadia ( 10 miles ). It was a good truck.
If you had someone to team with, that you know & work together well, you could lease a truck there, and do very well.
Huge bad side- They don't pay new drivers hardly anything. And their school is way over priced, and not very good. Crap shoot on what kind of trainer you will get.
SRT you will be able to run solo, and they pay a whole better, and was a much friendlier atmosphere. Now this was like 8 years ago. I also had a good truck, Columbia that was governed at 64. No problem with miles. If you can do your job responsibly you will get miles. They do a lot of temp controlled hazmat. They use to pay an extra .05/mile for that, don't know now. They didn't have trainers or students when I was there. They have a nice terminal. Nice lounge, free laundry. Huge shop. Like 20 bays. They have good equipment. They are refrigerated, so more patience is needed. Some shippers and receivers can be very frustrating. DO NOT lease a truck there, way too much money.
Just starting out, just be a company driver for at least a year. Make your mistakes with their equipment. I don't mean crashing, just learming to shift, beat their engine ( you will tend to rev to high when your new ), steering, curbing tires, it's normal for new people, so use their stuff, not yours.
SRT was pretty strict on safety back then, I imagine they still are.Rusty Trawler and Truckergirl2014 Thank this. -
