Has anyone attended Swift academy at Waco, GA?

You can leave the company anytime you want.

Having to pay back money that YOU burrowed doesn't mean that you are committed to work for the company.

 

I think for about 4-5 months. It's pretty new. I'm going there.

 

Last I heard it was $4000 but it may have raised to $4500. I doubt it went up to $6000. It is a commitment though. Swift will expect you to pay it back, either working for them, for someone else, or out of pocket. Don't think their is any way to weasel out of the repayment.

Read, @Friday post on the Swift school. He describes what I would have expect out of Swift for schooling. I have only worked for Swift and they are the last place I would go to learn anything.

 

I went to the swift school in Richmond, it was $3900 for the school plus $500 for the hotel if you were going to stay in it. I got $1000 off for being in the reserve and I live in Richmond so I didn't stay in the hotel.

There are two different military programs that Swift has the first one is for anyone that was in the military but is not in the reserves. That program is essentially free school if you work for swift for a year after the school. They don't give you any discount but they also don't take any money out of your paycheck and after a year of working for them, it's considered paid.

The other one is the thousand dollars off if you are in the reserve. So, my school was $2900. They still do take money out of your paycheck if you work for them, however since I didn't go to work for them after the school it was by far the better option for me.

There is no commitment to work for them afterwards, but it is absolutely correct that there is a commitment to pay back that loan whether you get your license or not. I should also add that in that thread I wrote some things from first person point of view that we're actually about other people and other things in third person that were about me. It was my first post on the site, I didn't want someone at swift to read it and burn a bridge when I was still in orientation at my current company.

 

I just graduated @ swift in Waco and it was an awesome experience for me.

 

I just graduated on Nov 9th and it was an awesome experience! Alot of people bring problems on themselves by not following the rules. If you come to class prepared and have your credentials with you at all times while on the range you wont have any problems. Also show up everyday and listen to the instructors.Good luck!

 

Went to a Private school in NY paid $1300 but now no company will touch me cause they say I don't have the 180 hrs of schooling.
So I ask ... the cheap way and be stuck or the expensive way and get a job ??

 

How about... get the requirements most companies expect, and get them as cheaply as you can? I've never seen a trucking school for $1300 so I'm not surprised if they gave you just enough instruction to pass the tests. You did at least get a CDL out of it though. You can find private trucking schools that charge a lot less than what trucking companies claim their courses to be worth, and still get credit for the hours everyone expects.

 

Just got off the phone with a Swift recruiter. They pay for the tuition at a third party school in Waco, Ga.
You owe them for that tuition which they will deduct $37.00 a week (about $2100.00) until paid off--about 13 months. If you stay with them they will then pay you that same amount per week until they match what you paid. In other words, there is no commitment but an incentive to work for them for 13 months--and then another incentive to stay there for another 13 months to get an additional $2100.00 added to your pay for that time.

 

Went there February 2017...
Day One: Introductions, Urine test and Physical
Day Two: Go over rules and policy, also some videos and textbook work
Day Three: Start Straight back
Day Four: If you have not passed the Straight back test, you're sent home.
The next week and a half; you'll be out on the range, practicing maneuvers.
After that you go thru the Swift test. If passed you get scheduled for DOT Exam if failed you have the choice to AP. Giving you one more chance (another week of practice).
Once you pass Swift's test you get three chances to pass with DOT otherwise Swift gives you the boot!!!!
