I couldn't agree with you more, and I also drive with the mindset of helping other drivers out. If everyone did this, it would be a much safer world, and we could all get where we are going faster and with less stress.
But when you raise kids to believe the world revolves around them, that they get a trophy whether they do well or not, and that nothing they do will ever cause them to get a spanking, that mindset carries over to adult life as well. It's all about "me me me", I don't care what anyone else needs, and there will be no punishment for me being selfish.
Do you pass trucks governed 1mph less than you?

KMac nailed exactly the point I would make. Never leave a courteous trucker pinned in the hammer lane like that. I'll even deliberately hang back at 50 mph or so to let that Prime truck rub the potential right lane passers and get back safely.
Sure at times it may take a while for the Choo Choo train to get through and I can make my pass, but everybody gets through safely and there weren't any surprises. A few minutes later I can pick a nice open spot in the lane and be on my way.MACK E-6, Miles Ohio and KMac Thank this. -
Good points, thanks. The reason I was asking is that sometimes when I move left because I see another truck coming up an on-ramp ahead of me, he turns out to be empty or just a lot faster than me and he will be up to speed and pulling away before I even catch up to him. Fast enough that I didn't even really need to move over to let him on. I just move back over when I can. I don't find this objectionable. If some idiot tries to pass me on the right, I don't blame the other truck.
I guess it is just a matter of how close you get to the merging truck.
Been on the job a year now and still learning. Always concerned about unknowingly committing some breach of etiquette which is why I asked the original question. Thanks for your responses.wore out, KMac, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes, I often will get over only to find that the merging truck or car is faster than anticipated. Better to do the right thing and get over than to create issues for merging traffic when you can safely do so.RustyChops41, wore out and ShooterK2 Thank this. -
