If you've already made up your mind....why did you even bother to ask members here? Holy crap does a guy get sick of people wasting their time.
After a couple weeks at K&B, don't bother coming back and asking "who next".slim shady Thanks this. -
25 yr vet here... a lot of it has to do with the time of yr. I tend to find in a lot of cases maybe not every niche of the industry, But January through the second week of March tends to be pretty slow and then it will pick up a little bit in April and May. Then June July August and the biggest part of September it's runs pretty steady. October November and December are generally pretty slow. That seems to be the trend on the dry side of freight. If you're running produce from coast to coast it stays pretty steady but it can get a little slow too after all people still need to eat regardless of what time of year it is. A word of advice respectfully speaking get you two or three years of experience and find a good-paying company. .48 to .50 cpm or better .55 cpm is nice. With some decent benefits. come up with a happy medium of the kind of miles....a minimum that you need a week to get by. And a realistic number that you hope to average a week. For example I want all I can get but I can get by just fine between 2500 and 2700 a week but at the same time I want all I can get last week I had 3,800 miles but the week before that I only had 2100 miles. But my average for the past two weeks combined was 2950/week. The week B4 those 2 weeks was over 3500 miles you need to look at your average miles when you combine them together over several weeks. When you can make that kind of CPM as stated above and average your miles from month to month and quarter-to-quarter. You will stop looking at how many miles you are getting week to week. That's just my opinion I'm sure someone else will chime in with their own opinion and a troll or two will come in and try to debunk what I just told you. Take it for what it's worth just my two centsLast edited: Sep 13, 2016
Joec111 Thanks this. -
Choose your own loads companies are better than depending on drive managers and planners to get you the miles you need and want
-
I wish I could choose my own loads we have pretty much the same customers all the time. If I was able to choose my own loads I would have a perfect week every week. Just like this week I will probably only end up With 2100 to 2200 miles this week

I choose my own loads but I can't get a perfect week, finding great paying loads is not always there. But my pay is better than relying on someone else to get you on the road. I work as hard as I want and take a reset when I want

I'm at k&B and getting paid quite well though it is true dispatch can be jerks.
Poly and Magnum start at 50cpm.
I am considering Van Eerden for my next move. Sexy Kenworths with studio sleepers, 401k matching and average pay in the mid $70k range. They also do a lot of round trip from Michigan to California.
K&B is not a mistake, they mainly have a bad rep from drivers who are bad at handling conflict and don't know how to be calm and assertive in response to the few badly behaved dispatchers there. Still, you might do better. -
Hi Dave, i've worked with almost everything. Started with dry van, did reefer, flatbed, winch, oversize. Since you are young and driven. I would suggest you to get into the car haulers. Every guy i know who is a company driver makes around $10K a month in that business.
If i was a company driver, i would go that route myself. -
Just curious do you still drive or just hang out with a CDL like me lol
