I have been driving for about 2 1/2 years and some would probably call me a newbie... no biggie..

Anyways, my pet peeve is seeing truckers tailgating other trucks... I am sorry but this is so STUPID and so not safe to the guy tailgating. Do you think that by hanging on the DOT bumper it is going to make that truck go faster. My God, what if the truck had to hit the brakes. The driver would be dead. I just don't get it. Especially in a construction zone. I always here somebody complaing because another truck is doing the speed limit or not driving as fast as the other trucker wants him too and I see trucks just hanging out too close...

Our truck is governed and if I feel that I am following someone too close but cant pass, then I will back down or hope for a good downhill...I have heard that sometimes another truck can help push a truck uphill by getting close but not sure if that is accurate or not...

And I do feel that I am a good and safe driver and if I don't drive as fast as other trucks, don't ride my ###!

Its probably worse to tail gate a 4 wheeler. I see that a lot as well. At least with a truck you have a prayer that you might be able to stop in time should they lock up the brakes. Stopping distance in a car is a lot shorter than in a big truck.

I like to drive a little slower than the 4 wheeler traffic. Drives my wife crazy when I get back in the family SUV and revert to those habits. I find if the cars are moving away from me that it is easier to keep a good following distance. I also find that trucks and cars tend to move along in packs. Going a little slower allows me to find a space with less traffic around me. Then I can speed up following behind the pack matching their speed.

Tailgating is one of the moving violation biggies, along with 15 MPH over the posted speed limit, reckless driving, improper or erratic traffic lane changes. Any two in three years & you'll lose your license for 60 days.

My truck is also set pretty slow, 62 MPH. If you've also got a slow but you can catch me, no matter how long it took & you jump into the left lane... I kick out the cruise long enough for you to get by. Why would the slower truck stay in it & contribute to a huge rolling backup?

I see truckers tailgating cars, vans, pickups, 10-wheelers, other trucks every day on Phoenix's inner-city freeways. Friday, I saw a truck that was about a car and a half's space behind a 4-wheeler flying along at 70 MPH. It's crazy - really quite insane. I don't understand the point of it - but I do wonder if these drivers realize the danger they are putting both themselves and the occupants of the vehicle in front of them when they do this.

OMG this is just a totally insane act...I see it all the time I can see I-17 from my house and the trucks are constantly tailgating other trucks or 4 wheelers. How much time do they think they have to stop when traveling at 70-75mph riding on someones tail?

How about the motorcycle that thinks it's cool to pull in 5 feet off your nose?

I have VORAD, and nothing pisses me off more than someone pulling back in front of me...too soon. And just hanging there. It's instant/automatic jake brake for me, regardless of the grade or traffic behind me.

And motorcycles are the worse offenders.

Yes, there are some very dumb motorcycle riders out there..............but I have been going to work riding my bike, in a 55 zone, going 70 and had more than a few trucks still trying to push me faster. This happens on US 22 from the I-78 split to the NJ border....We as CDL holders are suppose to be far better drivers than the typical 4 wheelers out there.

Hang 'em at high noon with a motorcycle chain. :yes2557:

I hadn't thought about that Danc.
Other than vehicles that snub you off, how do you like the VORAD? Would you rather have it, or not?
Seems like another case of electronics trying to drive the Big truck for you. Electronics can be smart, or stupid. Just like Big truck truck drivers. :biggrin_25523:
