Hi i currently have a good job I like, I started as a yard driver,, then progressed to a driver position, with a route.
but now im on the float board, due to less routes,,, anyways my issue is since being put on as a floater, I get sent on random runs, mainly local, sometimes layovers, but I get sent on team runs to my issue is for the life of me I cannot sleep in a moving truck.. then I feel exausted when its my time to drive again,,, Now my company is telling my I may have to fill a week straight of team runs.. Im ok with doing teams for a day/night at a time.. but anything more than that ill have to call in to work due to exaustion, it sucks.. do i have any options here can they fire me for not being able to sleep in that condition of moving vehicle ?? could I get a doctors note or something? thanks

I don't think you'll be able to get out of it unless you have a serious medical condition. Were I in your position, I would talk to the Safety Dept. and make your concerns known. If this does not help, then perhaps you should try going back to being a yard jockey. Just my thoughts.

FYI, I am the same way. Unless I am physically and mentally exhausted, I am unable to sleep when someone else is driving.

in a sense it is a serious medical conditon to me lol,, cause i put someone elses live at risk,,, whats bad is theres other floaters they could easlily rotate us.. instead of sticking us out a week at a time.

unless it's something that can be proven medically, i don't think you're going to have much luck. Take your concerns to the safety dept and see if they can help you out. Otherwise, you might be better off being a solo driver somewhere else or going back to a yard jockey (if you can)

When I first started driving I was driving team right from the start over 33 years ago (1983) in a Very small wheel base cabover freightshaker driving at nights, it took me a week of being dead dog tired to be able to sleep, Someone up above must have been keeping me awake!

depending on how it would affect the driver. If i take Nyquil, it's in my system for two days, and i'm really sluggish.

I started on Melamine this week and it seems to be working good. Also like the fact it's all natural.

    I. Ant sleep in a moving truck either. My current company asked me to do a team run and I made my case that it is unsafe for me to do so and I would be happy to help out on a rare occasion but won't make a habit of it. They said no problem and that was that. I was fully prepared to just find another seat if they forced my hand but I'm glad that wasn't the case, because like you, I like this job as well.
