So did you have to buy a new ECM?
Tbh, that's why I bought a small factory unit a few years ago so I can do all my truck & engine work undercover. On the road I've got a massive toolbox and a small warehouse of spare parts. But then again I don't have an electronic engine which makes in 10X easier. Best of luck.
Found this in my pan during oil change

Yes, new ECM. Flash new ECM, plus the labor from pulling the all the Freightliner crap off to pull the valve cover off so they could see that nothing mechanical was wrong.
This will be my 2nd ECM in 3 yrs.
HurstOzdriver Thanks this. -
Makes you wonder how that nut got where it did.
-
I honestly can not say where or how. The one thing I do know,... it did not come from inside my engine.
Where/how Petro got it,.. I cant say. My opinion is it came from another source and Petro either tried to scam me or failed to explain their own lack of understanding.

Very odd timing on the ECM letting go and Petro trying to scam you. Glad you got it sorted. I wonder how often they are pulling that scam? Monthly.... Weekly?....
Hurst Thanks this. -
would have been better off going to a Sears Automotive Center!Hurst Thanks this.

And as far as the ECM goes... did the gauges on your dash quit working right before it quit?
I thought mine needed a new ECM when the dash went dead, it displayed "No ECU" in the odometer and wouldn't restart.
There is a bundle of wires that runs beside the driver's seat. Find the one connector that has four wires labeled 'speaker' and then a large 10 gauge wire that is unlabeled.
The large wire provides power to the sleeper and if the connection is bad, like mine was, it will become very hot when you run the blower on high speed in the rear. For whatever reason, when the connection on that wire would break, my dash would go dead and the truck would not restart. I ended up chopping the wire out of that connector and soldering and shrink wrapping it directly. No problems since.
Another thing that is common, which mine also suffered from... some freaking rocket scientist just chopped the Qualcom out with side cutters and left bare wires touching everywhere. Data bus wires were grounding out on my seatbelt retractor and causing the truck to quit.
Those ECM's are #### near bullet proof unless it were to get struck by lightning. I'd suspect the things I listed above before a bad ECM.Elroythekid and Hurst Thank this.
