Ask i missing something here? What's the problem?
Giuseppe Ventolucci, Blackshack46, Riffman and 3 others Thank this. -
I am not sure what you are asking,
but it seems you are having trouble shifting?
best and simplest advice I can give you are for learning when to shift and drill on your own with a plunger, and two rubber balls. One
is gas and one is clutch. you can practice putting pressure and up and downshifting on your own. I can honestly say a weekend of drilling this put me ahead of my classmates.
As it was explained to me, a handy but not foolproof way, and one you will outgrow in favor of feel and sound is that 3 through 5 is what you actually use to get "up off the couch" and 6 through ten are easily remembered along the lines
of (15mph) 1 plus 5 =6 (th gear). 25 mph (2+5=7th gear) 55 mph equals what, tenth! And everything in between. Theres guys on here who may be able to tell you better but as a current fellow student, these things were game changers for me.ncmickey Thanks this. -
Most of the problem in school is they make you use the clutch. Once you learn to shift without the clutch its a piece of cake - youll get it, just takes time. Good luck -

Looking forward to learning to do it like a pro. Till then, I'm doing the ten step every red light just to get up and moving ...

Is your problem the number of students in the truck with such a limited time to practice?
If so, you can't do anything about it except find a different school. -
That's about it!
Or, just get the cdl and your first company will iron out the wrinkles.austinmike and Moosetek13 Thank this. -

I had the same problem when I was in school, to many in the truck to get real practice in on shifting. The plunger idea is great, works well. I don't know how your class is set up but my class was divided into two parts every day. One part pre trip and air breaks and behind the wheel time. After I felt I had my pre trip and air breaks pretty much learned I used that time instead to practice shifting. You don't even need to start the truck, just run the gears over and over again. Sometimes you have to make the time to pick up in areas where your lacking. Good luck!
