Not sure if your post was directed at me. I understand the schools and their fees may be lacking and overpriced. The school I went to, they would tell us go outside like we were children as they sat around a table and got a little fatter. So we would practice backing in old freightliners dirty, bald tires, leaking a couple gallons of oil a day, no radio, A/C and mirrors so dirty spit and your shirt was needed to clean them. We would make it a game and talk #### to each other, it actually was a good time looking back. I learned a lot using their equipment and turning chicken #### into chicken salad. To this day I don't have trouble backing into a spot other drivers avoided, with a spread axle(albeit dump valve sometimes)

To the OP, I'm not trying to hijack your thread. You can get a CDL without school through various employers. My point is, it's a small investment to use someones equipment in a controlled environment. Backing into a couple cones at school is a hell of a lot better than backing into Mike Tyson's Cherry 379 at 2A.M. back row at the TA.

Edit: And basically guaranteed a job if you're not a drug addict, clean driving record etc.

Around these parts the good old government has already handed it down that after July 1 next year that anyone wanting a class A road test needs x number (I don't recall the amount 160....200....slips my mind right now) of hours from an approved by them school.

This has been the case in IL for at least 2 years assuming you talking about class hours.

Wow that's stupid. I'm of the opinion that school mainly exists to take your money. They teach you a bunch of safety which you don't really need (when you first start you will be so scared that following to close, speeding, and frequent lane changes are a non issue, it's the 6 month Cowboys that need a safety brush up) and teach you double clutch which is total crap.

Truth be told I can't even double clutch. Everyone always told me to float and double clutching is only recommended by the manufacturer so clutches burn faster and need replaced

Everyone knows it but look at what three people doing license testing want. Chocks on wheels just to uncouple as though you don't have spring brakes double clutching which most agree is silly. When I did my test we were warmed about a spot on the route where you turn right into three lanes and the rightmost lane ended about a length and a half from that corner. You had better hit that right lane not the centre or that's a paddlin. It's not the schools that are jacked up in my opinion and I haven't been out of school long. Most of the problem lies in the system and the examiners they have to train students to appease.

I just graduated from CDL school last Tuesday. I've been reading a lot of posts on this site. Now I'm having the issue of what outfit would be good to start out with. I just don't want to get screwed over by an outfit that focuses on new drivers.

Well Lucy ,the state of Lincoln won't give you CDL A if you can't double clutch.
