Yes in 1-5, you don't want the RPM to be very high to shift... 1000-1200 tops. Above that you don't want to get above like 1500 or so if I understand the info I have read and watched correctly. As for downshifting, it would be based on road speed and engine speed... If you are going 45mph, you would add 4+5... 9th gear. Etc.

    Not the best explanation.

1500 is a good number. 1100 is another good number.

Now this range is pretty, loose. Some engines combination trannys shift 300 or less progressive.

Yes it is horrible for some to learn by grind. Literally shoving the stick and it's gear against another that simply wont go in. GRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNND. You cannot shave a tranny. Trust me. Ive watched my spouse grind and get angry which needed a quick roadside cool down and retrain in mental focus. But you CAN destroy a final drive. There is so much force that goes onto such small fine engineering it's awesome for gearheads like me to ponder it all. Although many companys spec a truck to have the drive shaft and U bolts fail before the final drives break. Which becomes a problem sometimes when trying to slide a tandem set.

It is one thing to sit here and type. Go forth and shift. I have a feeling those who learn manuals will earn a percentage more money and avoid restrictions in the future.
