I hear ya. To me it's a risk either way you go. With your back ground I would find somewhere else to put that 28k to work at unless you just enjoy trucking. There's better places to get a better return on your money.

Some guidelines for buying a used truck:
Stay away from cummins prior to 2014. They had a ton of emissions problems. 2014 they pretty much got it all sorted out.
Stay away from MaxxForce engines & Paccar engines, they aren't reliable enough.
Detroit is the best emissions engine. Before you buy one take the truck to a Detroit diesel shop (not a freightliner dealer) & have them pull an ecm report with warranty info, do a compression test, & an idle balance test. 95% of emission problems are due to bad injectors. The idle balance test will tell you the condition of the injectors.
Hope this helps.AkinNAUY Thanks this. -
Helps alot. Thank you. If i decide to go with them i have to work haha... The cummins emission i had no knowledge of but pretty much paccar n maxxforce are junk in my opinion.

I'm on with Mercer now. There are good paying loads out of the Midwest. Granted I went with a 1.50 16k load to LA which for $3300 from Ohio. No tarp. Look at a low mileage freightliner for around 60k.

Look at thisAkinNAUY Thanks this. -
It does look appealing. 16k lbs im guessing is what you meant? Is that to the and before all overhead right?

Columbus to LA approx 2200mi 4 days worth of driving 750$ fuel
Im looking at this right? So even @ 1.80 with that still a little low dont you think? Or have i been talking to super truckers that makes 2.25+? -
We are with Mercer now, only for a couple weeks but I look at the load boards of every state and I can tell you that the 1.80 is seldom seen. For the most part the vans are around 1.40. There are a lot of loads far less than that and some but not many higher. It depends on where you are loading. The flats are more, but even those don't average 1.80. There are some very short hauls that will pay upwards of 5 a mile but there are very few od those.
Our loads so far have average 1.55 for a flatbed. We got some bad dispatches but even as I looked at the boards the pay in those areas were not paying any more. Those numbers include the fuel surcharge also.
I am not her to bad mouth Mercer, I hope we are able to stay here, but we have both truck and trailer payments and 1.55 just won't cut it. If you would like to PM me that would be fine.AkinNAUY Thanks this. -
10.4 Thank you. I dont see how you're staying afloat? Good luck and hope everything works out.
