I have to agree with this . Do we really need unmarked cars chasing people 125 m.p.h. ? One of these Mustangs regularly patrols I-64 around the 85 mile marker . At the 92 mile marker a 12 mile one lane construction zone starts . Lately there have been one or two full growns sitting at the beginning of the construction zone where flashing lights indicate a 45 m.p.h. zone .
Also with the Mustangs it necessitates the need of another patrol car if an arrest is made .

Indiana doesn't have any hills big enough to get my truck to break the speed limit. But that's good information.

I have been noticing them more often. I saw one today on I-165? the bypass loop through new albany to jeffersonville, all black. I believe that crawford county in Indiana is still the poorest county in Indiana. You will be hard pressed to find anything there. There are a few hills on I-64 just east of Perry County that would get a truck moving fast enough to break the speed limit, but a few of those are under construction right now. I go through there every two weeks are so, visiting family, grew up in that area.

Personally, I think they should put those devices on them that lets them "taser" a cars electrical system.

People who force cops to chase them, need to have their cars taken and auctioned anyway. They could pay for the new mustangs that way.

None of this is justified... Its a ticket writing machine and nothing more.. The odds of them actually running into a chase are very slim.. The cars are simply their to bring in money off of the tickets they dish out...

They could of done the same thing with a Chevy cobalt a Dodge Caliber or a Ford Focus.... They simply wanted cars with a little zip to them to have fun with..a ego thing if anything... Don't need 300+ horsepower to write tickets...

Next thing you will here is the mustangs are to slow and they will need the new Dodge Challengers with 6.1L 420Hp to catch speeder....

Okay, lets look at it this way... Gas usage when comparing a Mustang GT 5.4L at 14 city/20 hwy to lets say a Ford Focus at 24/33

We will base this on 22,000 miles a year at 3.55 a gallon...

    Mustang
14+20/2= 17Mpg average (We know that is going to be much lower becuase the cops are going to idle, and being a mustang they are going to be getting on it all the time.)
    22,000/17=1294 gallons x $3.55= $4594.1 in fuel a year...

    Focus
    24+33/2=28.5 average
    22,000/28.5= 771.9 gallons x $3.55= $2740.35 in fuel a year...

    Mustang $4594.1
    Focus $2740.35
= $1853.75 more a year to run a Mustang (nearly 3/4 of a full year for the focus)

now lets do it times 48 cars....
    Mustang $220,516.8
    Focus $131,536.8
$88,980 a year more in fuel to run the mustangs....

But they sure do look cool in them Mustangs at the taxpayers expense..

($88,980 to catch a few they may have not been able to before.., Don't forget that is just fuel and not including the initial cost of the Mustangs)

And yes you can get a ford focus to run 130Mph with a few mods..

Or you could get the Dodge Srt4 that is bad #####

The gas usage is a good point . Every state trooper you see going down the highway is going at least 10 m.p.h. over the speed limit , using excessive gas for no good reason .
But assumptions on fuel mileage can be wrong . Who would think a Hemi Charger gets better fuel mileage than a Ford Crown Vic 4.6 ? Here are the 2008 Michigan State Police test results . http://www.michigan.gov/documents/msp/FuelEconomy-MSP_VehicleEval08_Web_221475_7.pdf

I would becuase I know that the dodge Hemi has that flex fuel system on them.. It only runs as a 4 cylinder till you get on it then it kicks in the other 4 to make it an 8 cylinder.. They had to do this in order to meet emission standards.. If they had not mastered that technology the current Hemi motors would not be sold in America...

but I see where you are getting at.....

Our stock '05 Mustang GT will do 140+ as it is. I've personally had it at 140 where the speedometer stops and was still accelerating (dumb, I know, but JEEZ that was fun!!). I wouldn't go beebopping down the highway for long periods with it stock like it is, but it's not like I did any damage to the car running the dogsnot out of it just as it came off the assembly line. I don't know about the governor at 120 - I don't think that's the case...

We have the Diablosport Tuner and have done some tweaking on it since that time to improve efficiency and economy, but that wasn't until recently and I had the needle buried long before that. :) Maybe I'm incorrect, on paper, but sure wasn't, in practice.

On average, I'll do between 65-80 on the way to work (depending on traffic flow and if weather is good condition). I get 21MPG with it going 75-80 avg. If I'd do the speed limit all the time, I might do the 28 it's supposed to do... ;)

AGREED! They don't need a "cool" car to do it. The fact is, though, these things are the new "belly button car" and since they're everywhere, they blend in and give cops the advantage of surprise. All I know is that I hope one doesn't ever pull up next to me and try to race. Most Mustang drivers don't challenge each other, though... they seem to be out to challenge everything else, instead. I bet Indiana nails a few of the new Camaros when they finally come out... if they can catch them, that is. LOL

It also says something about it may also be determined if you have an auto or stick...
