I trained a guy at FedEx Freight several years ago, he came to FedEx straight from Fastenal. He's now the trainer for FedEx Freight in Tacoma. He drove teams at Fastenal; did they mention whether you would be running solo, or teams?

I just applied to "drive a truck for fastenal". I'd be open to teaming with the right person. My expectation based on recruiter and confirming sources elsewhere is two, two day out and back types of things running regional.
-
Could anyone give any "tips" on company driving tests? For the MTO tests, we were expected to go into Left most lane while turning left, while in real world - I usually just go directly into the curb lane.
thanks. -
I is confused... please to elaborate....JReding Thanks this.

was wondering if the senior truckers could point-out some "must do" while newbies like myself undergo a driving test with a company, say Schnieder. things to pay extra attention to, things to avoid / watch out for, etc.
-
Ahh, well the whole left lane to turn left thing threw me off, dont curb it, if you cant remember the last time you checked your mirrors, check em. Ask in advance if they want you to smith it or not, dude.aj Thanks this.

If there are TWO left turn lanes...take the one on the right. Just remember ALWAYS protect your blind side on a left turn---meaning (since you have to swing wide to keep the trailer in YOUR path), make sure there is nobody on your right making the turn with you.

For a new driver, is $0.36 a mile good?
-
That's about the rate that Swift pays for new drivers OTR. However, with Fastenal you will likely get stop pay and maybe unload pay, which can really pad the paycheck.JReding Thanks this.

Well, I know I'm a new driver, but if
I am running as a team, sleeping while moving, and gone that many hours anyway, I may as well be earning overtime at a local instead. If I am going to run as a team anyway, I may as well go OTR. I get the impression that its a great group, but when I stack hrs worked and home time and having a swapped schedule, I'm really thinking I should just resign myself to working around tacoma in a tanker or food hauling.
