I've been told by a few fellow drivers that I should EXPECT to run for $1.40 to $1.60 UNTIL I get the system figured out. There is a big learning curve. I was fortunate that I have made money from day one here at Schneider. We figured their system out real fast. With that being said, they're plenty of drivers here that are not making money just like they're are plenty at Mercer not making money. I can tell you right now it's not the companies fault. If it was no one would be making money. I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you expect to come to a new company & be making the "big" money right from the start. Few will ( I did it here at Schneider) but most won't. Even though I did real well from the start here & I don't expect it to happen at Mercer.

Not really looking to make anything spectacular. Just the way it looks not much of a jump from company to having to do everything yourself. Not really sure if its worth the headache and trouble when it comes to pay difference.
-
That makes sense. You CAN make more than a company driver even though some don't. My main reason for doing it is the freedom. I go where I want when I want. No dispatcher telling me what I'm doing & no one telling me I have to go or I can't go home, etc...
You have to decide what you really want. If it's to make a lot of money, get out of trucking altogether lol & start a business.nordrunner, DarkhorseEnterprises and AkinNAUY Thank this. -
Definately an eye opener but when you talk to some super truckers they make so much money that they dont know what to do with it. I guess thats why your supposed to take everything with a grain of salt haha. Anyway, thank you for sharing your insights and experience.

I was banging out 1.70 to 2.00 a mile. Then about ten days before the holiday it slowed down. But you run 500 to 1000 miles then dead head for a 150 miles and repeat.

We are having real problems. We have been with Mercer 2 weeks. We were sent to pick up our second load to find out it would not go on our truck(300mi dh) another 300 dh to pick up a load that sent us to Wa. In the mean time we are all over the boards looking for loads and calling agents. The coordinator found one to Ca. and now we are stuck there probably for the weekend. I have been on the boards for 2 days non stop and nothing. We just want to get to the Ohio Valley and will take anything that will pay for fuel. We have a conestoga and I know that is part of the problem, but all the rates are bad.

There are some "super truckers" as you call them making that kind of money at Mercer. They've been there awhile & learned the system & learned to make the system work for them.
-
That doesn't sound like Mercer's fault. The load should tell you the trailer type, and you should have known before you drove 300 miles.back street slider Thanks this.

This was our second load for Mercer and the coordinator found it

Talk to the agents for what ever area you are in. I'm guessing a coordinator has 45 trucks to watch.
