I'm telling you, you'll have a blast and never regret it.
    Forget about the moneyh
Graves are filled with the bones of those that were waiting for retirement but never got there.
If you can afford it now, do it now.
Otherwise, take 25 grand and buy as decent a truck as you can
Sign on with landstar or Mercer or another company that will give you the freedom to choose your loads and schedule.
When it's out if your system, sell the truck.

I think you need a year experience to sign on with them.

Trucking does not mean a #### thing with security. Ive gone into depots to get loads Ive known nothing about. Even escorted loads. Just have to parrot your eye and hair color to the gaurds back then.

I say this. Keep your Secret Clearance and stay away from trucking. There isnt much here that requires your Secret. It will likely be revoked anyway if you get into trucking.

I can get clearnece if I want to. But I wont. I don't have a need for it. And see nothing there that will improve living. Now if you are bored, tired and sick and fed up with secret work, by all means get a flower shirt, shades a cold one and have yourself a ball running down the road.

I left working on airplanes to drive. I doubled my pay riding in the truck versus scraping my knuckles.

I remember it used to be good stuff, I knew guys that were getting out as airplane and rotary mechs and easily pulling six figures. Used to be the same way for intel work. With all the wage depressing measures, I am not finding it unusual for folks to start new careers in trucking. I'm doing
it. I think its going to be the new normal.

Yes, there are jobs that require background checks etc etc. However I know of none like you describe that are entry level jobs.

What you could do is catch yourself one of those nuclear class 7 haulers. West to Nevada. Write down the DOT number off the cab and contact them. They might hire you on the spot. That would be a ideal. Now I caution you that those vertical casks on lowboys are tippy. It's not likely people are going to be too stupid around you and your load.

Where did you work on airplanes and who do you drive for, that sounds pretty good to double your money !
Every place I have been checking it looks like my take home pay would only be a third of what I take home now per week. I would love to double my pay !!!
