Stopped for the night in Baker City, Oregon.
Saw some online reviews for a local BBQ joint called Big Chief.
The restaurant is in old train cars.
I was greeted quickly and allowed to sit where I pleased.
I ordered 1/2 rack of ribs and tri-tip even though the special was pulled beef.
The tri-tip was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. The ribs were way overcooked and were dry. They had a great flavor but I was very disappointed with the ribs.
I was disappointed with this stop. If you eat here try the tri-tip or the pulled beef.J. JETT, Bumper, WalterSobchak and 3 others Thank this. -
I should have listened to my gut and went to my original stop I had planned in Baker City. Barley Brown's Brew Pub.
I went there very swiftly after leaving the restaurant. I didn't sample any food but the food coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic.
When I arrived, I found out you had a choice of going to the brew pub where they serve food, or the brewery / taproom. They will still serve you food at the brewery but they tote it over from the pub. Needless to say I visited both.
The Pub was extremely busy. It had its share of good looking ladies coming in for drinks and food.
The brewery / taproom was a little more laid back. Not near as many people and not near as much noise.
Both have dart boards and both have their own brewed drinks. The pub has liquor and mixed drinks. The taproom only has their creations.
I started with a Twisted Whisker Scottish Ale., in honor of my BFF (jr) @tucker.
It was a dark beer and was full of flavor.
Here's the description :
twisted whisker scotch ale
a traditional scotch ale, brewed with floor malted marris otter barley, some dark crystal malt and a bit of peat smoked barley. hops are east kent goldings.

I saw they had a maple ale brewed with maple syrup, allspice, and cinnamon, but they didn't have a batch at this time..... DARN!
Bartender recommended an Irish red. It was also tasty.
Description:
point blank red (pbr)
also known as our irish red, this beer gets it auburn color from caramel and chocolate malts. it's lightly hopped with oregon grown crystal hops.

This place totally makes this whole stop worth while.
I parked at Jackson's Truck Stop. Between it and the other places with truck parking, there was plenty of room.
There's also a restaurant next door to Jackson's that serves Barley Brown's craft beers.
If you stop in Baker City, definitely visit the brewery and the pub!
Here's a glance into the brewery

I do know from a past trip that another place, in close proximity to here is worth a stop.
It's on i84 just a few miles east of Pendleton, Oregon. There's several choices to park.
You can either park at the Arrowhead truck stop or the Wildhorse casino.
When I visited I parked at the truck stop and walked to the casino.
The truck stop is extremely nice and clean. They have security that drives around and they keep it immaculate.
The casino is very good size. It also has a theater inside it. It has several different restaurants and sports bar inside.
I sampled the food in the sports bar and it was good. I've heard from others that the food in the buffets is much better.
If you're looking for entertainment this is the place!

OMG DELICIOUS!!!WalterSobchak, Winnyf1 and tucker Thank this. -
Today my choices are limited, I chose the Modelo, bluh, its not too bad if they don't put fruit on it.
It's been years since I was at Baker City, last time they had the rodeo going on, I should have pried myself off the bar stool and walked over to it.Pigbacon Thanks this. -
No time to stretch out and have an extravagant meal. I have a delivery early am.
Stopped by Red Robin, had a burger, fries, and an orange cream soda. Filled the void in my belly and the soda took care of the sweet tooth!
Oops sorry that's the wrong picture.
Knucklehead, tucker and 4mer trucker Thank this. -
Stopped at Murats in Mussoula MT (just across from the Flying J) and visited the Wheat Montana location, what a great spot for a breakfast wrap or sandwich.
They make their own bread here and it shows, I'm not an oatmeal fan but it looked and smelled amazing. And it you have a sweet tooth, you're covered here.
Don't hesitate to come on over if you're in the area, you'll get a belly full of food and struggle to not get change back from a $10 bill.
