Hello, I start truck driving school on October 10 I am worried about my high blood pressure. I was able to visit my doctor on Friday and my pressure is 156/100. The question that I have is he told me that I would not be able to pass DotPhysical with my blood pressure that high. I read the forums that if you have that high of blood pressure they would give you a medical card for one month. I am kind of confused on if I would fail the Dot physical or not.

A one month card isn't going to get you very far. Get your BP under control BEFORE you spend any money trying to get into this industry...because if you don't, and you can't pass the physical, your new license is worthless.

I don't know why he did not give me any BP medicine. I guess he wants to see if it was just high on that day only

Ask your primary doctor about putting you on diuretic Rx called spironolactone. This was a suggestion from a family member who is a pharmacy tech.
I just passed DOT this month and got a 2 year card, but I'm on the borderline and will discuss with my doctor next time I see him. Been this way for 15+ years but trying to avoid meds by watching diet and hoping I'll lose 10 lbs when I start new job. -
I believe 142/90 is the threshold for DOT

Under 140/90 for two year.140/90 to 150/99,for one year. The problem is,if you go to one year or less, you'll never get back to 2 year, even if you get your BP down to normal.
KMac Thanks this.
