It's the other way around, Volvo makes Mack engines. Volvo owns Mack.
Mack M shift I think they call it is same as Volvo ishiftx1Heavy Thanks this. -
No Volvo makes the ishift..Mack borrows it.
The engines for both are built in Hagerstown.
Most of the technology is taken from Volvo..Mack tweaks it for lower rpm torque.
I was going to buy a Mack(i've always been a Mack guy) but Volvo beat them on price.
Plus the Volvo sleeper is laid out so much better.Dave_in_AZ and x1Heavy Thank this. -
AUGH!!! which is it?!
LOL. Maybe they call it a Macvo or something. he he hee.Dogals right foot Thanks this. -
Both trucks are good IMO.
MPG you will beat a Cummins with Volvo/Mack.
I have been hauling heavy in PA/NY..44k on the box and I'm averaging 7.9 mpg running 68mph.
That's tough to beat.
Plus I NEVER miss a gear..LOL!Dave_in_AZ and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Averaging 7.9 in PA... at 68.
Erm... you must be light loaded Best I ever did in PA was around 6.4 at most and if it aint straight up or fighting my 5th wheel straight down and crooked int the rain....
A few blocks of Camp Hill followed by the rail yards towards Duncannon easily destroys what average I have built up on 15 prior. -
So Tuesdays and Sundays off? That's kind of a weird schedule but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I just humped 44k from Aberdeen to Amsterdam..7.8MPG.
Then did 43k from Amsterdam to Niagara falls..7.9MPG.
I'll get with you tomorrow as I have a heavy load from Carlisle area to wilton ny..45k.x1Heavy and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
The only truck OTR that has left me by the side of the road was KW660 with a Cummins. Going up that long grade out of Vegas on the way to LA on 15. Oil temp went so high alarms going off " WE ARE MELTING !!!!! ", had to shut down and let cool off about 3/4 of the way up the grade.
As far as electrical problems, I think you just get certain tractors that are lemons. I had a Century once that all the Mexicans saved all the bad harness's and put them all on that one tractor. Every month was a different harness, even the fuel injector rail, until they were all replaced.
The HUGEST POS I ever drove was KW mixer. It had a cat that was a HIGH winder. Sometimes it got 3.5 MPG. Roughest riding, forever broken truck in the known universe.Dogals right foot and x1Heavy Thank this. -
I remember a Brigader. Those old day cabs... to drive one is a punishment Then as bad as those were, there is the old General. I rather fight 3 bullies in a alley than get beat up by the general.. every point of contact inside that cab is metal.
25(2)+2, Dogals right foot and dc730 Thank this.
