Building a Shop

50x30 is way too small for 2 trucks.

i rent a 25x50ft shop and it is too small for my one truck

by the time you get work benches and tool boxes compressor pressure washers and all the stuff that accumulates over time it gets to be way too small.

i know now you say you pull someone else trailers but what if that changes at some point, a 50ft deep shop can be a real pain for doing trailer repairs.

when i get to build my own shop i am planning on 50x80

 

An indoor pressure washer has some negatives to it. That salt and mud will fly to places you never expected it to. Even with a curtain, it gets messy. Washing outdoors, even in winter, isn't so bad as long as you wear a rainsuit to stay dry. Then park the trucks inside so they don't freeze up.

 

I put up an exsel building by porta grace. I am happy with it. 40x60 minimum I would say. My neighbour did the container building thing. It came out nice. 40x80 open space inside. Outside dimension is 56x80. He cut openings in the container inside walls for access to the storage. He used trusses and the 4 ft wall from a 40x120 greenhouse and mounted them to the inside top of the containers. Extended the trusses to the outside of the containers and tinned it..from the road it looks like a pole barn. 4 used containers and the used greenhouse was under 10g..

 

My cousin bought a steel building just over a year ago, 50X100 from Kentucky Steel building if my memory is correct. They are in Winchester, KY just off the big road. I think all in all he got it for around $38,000.00 if my memory is correct, with insulation. Then he had to hire people to erect it.

 

I had the super insulated Morton pole barn put up, 36 by 40 by 12 foot ceilings, concrete floors and insulated electric doors. I paid dearly but it's a great tight building.
Some people think I got ripped off and it should have cost about 8 grand, they're insane.

 

I had a 30X50 pole building built with a 12' ceiling. Amish built it. With the building, man door, 12X10 roll up door, concrete floor, I think I paid around $17,400 all installed. I did my own wiring, and still working on insulation..... Wish now I would have had them to do it.

 

I have 2 10 by 10 insulated doors, 6 inch insulation in the walls and R-47 in the ceiling with tin under the rafters, a 5 inch floor, ugh... cough.... 45 grand, another 3 for the lights and wiring and underground wiring from my meter pedestal.
It is a great tight building and I got what I paid for.

 

I built mine in 2010, 38x40x14metal bldg, concrete floors and plumbed for shower and toilet, no interior walls. I have a 14' wide roll-up door. Was all done by contractor for $19,000. I did all the electrical and Hoping to add on next year and finish my office and head on the inside. Wish it was twice the size.
The county I live in doesn't require permits. Even when building my house only needed a perk test and show receipts of where septic system was put in.

 

@tucker thought I had a better pic, Wish it was taller, and insulation was finished lol. But I'm grateful for what I have. Needs to be twice as big, can't Woop a cat in it without getting hair all over ya lol. To much stuff in it.
