Not enough decent paying loads out of Morrow. When he was offloading dispatch called him and gave him a load to north Alabama that only paid $1.20 a mile. He said he couldn't operate off of that. Just that kind of stuff going on. He said he was about ready to become a company driver.
I have heard similar stories out and about. I considered getting my own truck a couple of times but I never got a really good vibe about the whole thing so I decided to not go that route.

Yes, I've heard there is some cheap freight out there. Most of what we have up here pays 1.40+ for out n back and 1.70+ for system.rubberducky68 Thanks this.

Hopefully you won't run into that situation too often.

One month in the books! So far my plan to run all summer is not working out. I was hoping to defer as much as possible to the winter, but that isn't happening at all. June is going to be a total bust thanks to downtime. I've got some truck issues being sorted out and some bureaucracy issues with the state keeping me home. It's a real pita to renew a CDL w/hazmat in this state. In North Carolina I did everything in one day, only had to wait for the fingerprints to come back. Here I have to ASK for an appointment (they decide the time/date) to get tested, then make an appointment for fingerprinting, then ASK for another appointment to actually renew everything.
So with 1 month of driving as an IC:
9154 odometer miles
8402 rated miles
8.3% OOR or PC (a lot of those extra miles was PC)
$14,776.66 gross
$10,818.85 after fuel and deductions, pre-tax net
$1.61 gross cpm all miles, $1.18 pre-tax net cpm
$0.40 cpm fuel cost (with discounts)
1 week at home, May 26 to June 1
If I can get running and stay running $18k+ is doable. -
Hey nc driver you still out there? Haven't seen a post from you in awhile.

I'm still here, haven't updated this thread in ages but that will change soon. I spent most of July and August on the road. Did a lot of out n back in July and August was 100% system. So far in September I've been keeping close to home doing the regional stuff.59EX Thanks this.

Good to hear your still out there running hard,I've been very busy to. Hartt has a program where if your on tanker for 6 days then you get your paycheck plus they add 250 on top of your pay so far I've been doing it for 2 months ,its an extra 1000 a month can't beat that, but I get worn out with only Tuesday night off, but no rest for the wicked

Saw yesterday nc driver going south how are things going? Hopefully busy.

Things are going well enough, my trucks been much more of a maintenance nightmare than I had hoped for but I'm hanging in there. I'm expecting to pre-tax net $35,000 from being an IC since May. Not any better than being company driver; the downtime + maintenance has really added up. At this point in 2015 I had grossed about $65k. I'm kinda at the point that if I spend another 10k on extra maintenance I'm getting rid of the truck and going back to company.

I couldn't do it on those rates.....
