One of my real pet peeves about local work. Add in Saturdays and many times you have the same, or even less of, a life than an OTR regional driver.
Looking to go local, need advice...

Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
The other thing is the maintenance programs for local are often not as
good. Company assumes since the truck doesn't go over any scales being
legal isn't so important.
Some local company don't have any benefits, no health insurance, etc....
Try to find a terminal close to where you live. I live about 10 minutes from
the yard. Take all back roads to get there. Coming back after a long day isn't
so bad when I hit the front door 10 minutes after shutting the truck door. -
Yep. And low man, dealing with seniority, crappy docks, etc. But what I dislike most is that they use hometime as a "perk". And since you get to go to your own place like everyone else, it's look at as you owe them. I'm not just taking any job. I'm going to find one I want local or I'm going to do something different. Not going back to OTR because it served the purpose I needed it to. I just bought some camping land and I intend to see it often with my son.

That's basically the hours I work. I live in Kansas City MO and there is a TON OF THOSE JOBS. Look into intermodal aka "trash cans".
