I am starting with Roehl sometime in January. I was already offered a conditional job (read as: pass all the tests) but called and told them I could not start until after I hit my 20 year anniversary at my current job (in early January). The lady I spoke to said she completely understood what I was doing and asked me to please just update my application and resubmit it as soon as I am available. She said they will call me back when that happens. I chose Roehl because of the predominantly positive reviews, in state paid training, and the variety of options they offer. By choosing them I know I will get quality training to get me out on the road and get my feet wet again. I find their training commitment to be fair as they are investing in me, the mileage requirement to pay them back is a small price to pay to get the valuable experience that could lead to long term with them or better opportunities with other companies. Looking forward to a new chapter in life.

    That's awesome Grizzly228!
I'm done with my research. I'm definitely going with Roehl. There's good and bad in every company and the good seems to outweigh any bad I've read.

Im so excited to see someone who is as stoked as I am about starting with Roehl!

Maybe I'll see you on the road!

Can't wait to talk to my recruiter Monday and get my DOT testing set up!

I have heard/read somewhere Knight has a pretty stringent physical ability test where if your heart rate goes too high, that it would be a disqualifier. Roehl sounds like a good group. I wanted to go with them early on but they had nothing in my area, so I ended up at Abilene. Best of luck. You will do well. Your heart is in the right place.

Thank you George! I think I'm doing this for all of the right reasons. Maybe one day I can be a driver trainer.

Hey rosewild you might not go to the GA terminal, my roommate in class was from GA and I'm from maryland and we went to Wisconsin. Females get their own hotel room in training if theres only 1. Not sure about phase 2 with the OTR trainer but i think they put you up in a hotel each night for the ladies. I dont think they have too many if any female driver trainers. Roehl is the way to go, they are so safety oriented, you will get the best training and have confidence in your abilities. The class in marshfield was great, instructors know their stuff and they really take care of new drivers. I have nothing but good things to say about Roehl, good choice!

Thank you so much Buddy! I was kind of worried about that but was willing to do whatever I needed to do to get the training. Happy about the hotel situation. I'll probably be speaking with my recruiter some time tomorrow and this is definitely something I'll be going over with her.

Wisconsin is definitely doable. I will go wherever I am sent. It would have been nice to be closer to home but It's not entirely essential.

Tell me about your training? Are you finished and solo yet? I want to hear all about it! Much appreciation for the feedback.

Im actually with trainer OTR right now doin flatbed. I will say the training seemed very quick and sudden at first but it levels out by week 2 and you get more comfortable. Day 1 is just paperwork and intro, day 2 you bobtail on the dirt track learning to shift, then you start turns with a trailer. If you show them you can shift you'll be out on the road in town a couple miles a day within the first week. Each day you split time with other drivers taking turns backing and driving. Pay good attention to other drivers mistakes while your in the backseat, and what helped me the most was commentating everything i did as i was driving. Week 3 your getting ready for your test, you should know your pre trip by heart by end of week 2, its pretty simple if you just do it the same every time. Week 4 you test and then in a few more days your headed home to get your cdl. I had a great time training in marshfield, the hotel was great, they feed you good and all the other drivers and all the instructors were cool and good to get along with. Marshfield is a nice little town too, get you some cheese curds if you're out there, good luck!

I so appreciate the play by play! So you go home after training and get your CDL in your home state? What truck do you use to test if they send you home before going out with a trainer? I thought one would get the CDL near the training facility?

They have internationals and frieghtliners, you test in class and take the results to your home state to finish getting your cdl on your hometime after training.

Stay with Roehl refrigerated for 12 months at least. If you still like OTR, but want to try a different company, then you have the experience to go to most refrigerated companies.
There's some good ones out there that require 12 months experience such as Holland Enterprises Inc. and Tribe Transport.
