Awesome! How long do they send you home for after training and before the OTR Training?
Your information is so helpful to me right now, Buddy!
Starting with Roehl in February

Hi Chinatown! All of you have been so wonderful and it makes me want to do this even more.
My long term goal is Refrigerated National long hauls. My dad hauled swinging beef. He died by flipping his rig when I was 18. I would have done it sooner but my family was terrified for me. Accidents do happen. That's why I've waiting so long I guess. But I guess in the end, that desire never leaves. It's a compulsion and I can't fight it anymore. Now that my kids are grown and my husband is ok with me driving, I'm ready to let this take me to the end of my days until I can't drive anymore. I would say it's a fine way to be a late bloomer.gntorres61 and Chinatown Thank this. -
Glad to help, i was home for a week, you will have to work it out with your training FM. They dont want you sitting at home too long, it depends on where you are and where the trainers are. I had to fly out to the gary terminal to meet up with my trainer.RoseWild Thanks this.

We're there any ladies at the training facility when you went through your training?
How is you OTRT going? -
I didn't read through your entire thread, but I believe Maverick has a CDL training program and they have a refrigerated division as well.
RoseWild Thanks this. -
I really appreciate your feedback farmboy73! I'll keep that in mind. I'm solid on wanting to start with Roehl. It's nice to know about other company out there though.

There was one lady in my class but she didnt make it through week 2, dont worry about it though. If you can get down shifting and apply the driving and backing methods they teach then its in the bag. My OTR is going pretty well so far, still in the first week. Its a big jump from phase 1, dont have hardly any down time in the day, just drive and sleep.

I have continued to research other companies until I can start in January because obviously it is always a good idea to have options. I know there are several other good companies in addition to Roehl, but I keep going back to my gut instinct that says Roehl is the best fit for me to start at. That being said, it is very reassuring that experienced drivers are so willing to offer valuable input and advice to those of us just beginning because I can say, for me at least, it has helped tremendously.

I hear you Grizzly. During my phone interview today, I found out that Roehl doesn't pay for your transportation to the training terminal. They will pick you up from the bus terminal though. Also, I have been told that dinner is included during the four weeks of training. Today, my recruiter informed me it is not. Also, it will be 6 months until I can take family for ride alongside instead of the 3 months I was originally quoted.
All in all though, non of this is a deterrent and I still have my sights set on Roehl. Just waiting for them to schedule the DOT physical and drug test before we can move forward. -
Are you doing all of the driving?
