I'm not saying this driver didn't do a proper pre-trip but.....

I was standing out in front of Union 76 Truckstop once - it was out in the boonies and the air was clean - I was taking it all in. The Interstate was about 500 feet from where I was standing, but it was in plain view - the only thing between it and this truckstop was one of those fences they erect all along interstates to try and keep animals from running in the roadway.
Something caught my eye - it was dark but I could make out something approaching the truckstop at a very fast rate of speed. As it came into view - it was a wheel/tire assembly that had come off a truck - it was moving along. It passed by and went off into the open field beyond the truckstop. Sometimes - you just have to wonder. -
ROFL - and all this time we thought Canada lacked a death penalty!

Most likely, this was a case where lug nut were loose. The hub & bearings are intact but the drum is gone & the lug bolts are sheared off. Sometimes a trace of rust on a rim coming from a lug is a sign that the lug nut may be loose.
rubbergearsnextyear, super10 and droy Thank this. -
Preciate ya driver, that's the kind of analysis I was hoping for. The driver did mention the rubber was changed a few days prior. Guess it's a good idea to check after the wrenches have been applied. Anyone can make a mistake.

Something else that is scarey..........
Last year is was heading W on I40 and saw a light show heading east.
Driver of a flat bed drove just from when I could see about 3 miles with his axle on fire. The flames were shooting out from the side of the axle on the rear axle of trailer.........
I tried calling on the CB ......no answer.......I heard a guy saying he was trying to catch him to tell him...........
The moral I guess..........look in your rear view mirrors regularly..........
IF YOU SEE FLAMES OR WHEELS COMING OFF...........HHHMMMM
MAYBE STOP AND CHECK......................
*****************JUST A THOUGHT******************* -
Never been in a Class 8 truck with a rear view mirror, have seen a few with mirrors on both driver's and passenger's side......................
LOL

lol I say rear view all the time instead of side view. The weird thing is that the centuries all have a spot or something where a RV mirror looks like it would install.

Reminds me of a Pat Travers song:
BOOM BOOM - OUT GO THE LIGHTS
