My jake works just fine. I don't know of any jake that will hold you at 55 mph loaded to the hilt on a 3 mile long 6% grade.

Yeah, I drove automatics for PAM and if I took to much time backing they would start to lurch for some reason.
However, some autos I drove for MCT(ComCar) were auto-shifters that still had a clutch pedal. You still had to clutch when starting in drive, but then the shifter would take over in traffic. -
I haven't driven one but it seems like they back really slow after some delay. And if you use throttle to speed up it will just lurch back really fast. Like 4-5 feet before the driver hits the brakes to stop. Probably a new impatient driver but it doesn't look fun.

I can't wait to get a chance to drive an auto. Then stick is ok but if I can have one less step to control the truck while driving I'm all for it.

One complaint about the ones we have is with trying to ease into a dock. Apparently you can't creep like when you're feathering a clutch.
-
I watched an experienced driver one day about knock the building down hitting the dock too hard, he was embarrassed about it, and I told him.not to sweat it too much, the darn things were hard to control, the 3 pedal ones were probably better for docks and even general backing.
Worst thing we had when we had a bunch of them in both Eaton and Freedomline, was sliding tandems. Knocking docks into another dimension wasn't quite the problem in general.
We have not one anymore, although McCoy did come up with dt12 in a new Cascadia Evolution.
Guy took it to Miami as a loaner, and liked and disliked it all at the same time.
You can't see the drive wheels on anEvolution because of the ground effects. Would take some getting used to, and the trans hadn't been reprogrammed and still was quirky.MACK E-6 Thanks this. -
I know how that driver feels. I spew language that would make a sailor cringe when I hit a dock too hard.
DRAGON64, 25(2)+2 and Chucktshoes Thank this. -
I feather my Volvo 670 with the I-Shift into docks almost every day with no problem, it's much easier for me to control than when a clutch.
The only issue I have run into is if I'm on a slight decline the hill assist feature will activate and engage the brakes, if you press too hard on the fuel pedal it can jump once the computer releases the brakes. However, the Volvos have an override switch which I turn on when it engages anyways.
