Where is it called soda pop. Ive heard it but don't recall. Down here most used the term coke until recently, its a soda now
-
Not sure about 'soda pop'... But 'coke' or 'cola' as a general term for Soda has always miffed me... Give them a genuine coke and they get offended that you didn't know they meant 7-Up or Sunkist... Haha.
Isn't that peculiar?street beater Thanks this. -
Ive heard the "coke" thing in a few places.
"What do you want to drink?"
A coke.
"Yeah, what kind?"BIGZILLA Thanks this. -
Typically up in the Great White North we refer to carbonated beverages as "pop"
I use "Coke" as a short hand for Coca Cola though. But then I end up at a KFC and they get all bent out of shape because they sell Pepsi.

I wouldn't make it to the last line... Because I'd give them a coke. It's a branded name.
Pretend all shoes were called Nikes. Wouldn't it irk you to walk into a shoe store ask for a pair of Nikes and the clerk walks you over to the Puma section?
I'm trying to draw a parallel, but it's a bit tough... Branded things are generally know as branded things. Seldom does a brand act as an all encompassing noun.BIGZILLA Thanks this. -
Kleenex. Case rested.

I agree! Thats why its so odd. But branded things are nouns all the time!
Vice grips, (locking pliers)
Post it (stickynotes)
Cresent wrench (adjustable wrench)

Those are facial tissues if they're not Kleenex. Lol.

One that bothers me is when people call a Yukon/Tahoe/Suburban/Excursion etc a "truck". No they are SUV's and they're built for soccer moms.
VTech, KillingTime and street beater Thank this.
