Hey so i am a dispatcher and i have recently started with a new truck on a fleet. We got loaded 3 Silverados with no issue. I was about to book load (3 Chevrolet Vans) but i have been told they have about 20inches longer wheel base compared to Silverados so i would need extra ramps to load them . Actually they say we need 3 sets of rams. Find attached a picture for Silverados loaded.

I am a bit confused why would we need extra ramps as there seems to be plenty of ground clearance everywhere. Do you guys use this kind of trailer and had issues loading some type of cars? Any advise please.
Also, does anyone use this kind of a trailer to load 4 cars? The lift seems to be able to lift only light weight. Do you think is is broken or just made for light weight only?
I would like that ramp to be able to lift at least a light truck (1500 f150 etc.), when now it is capable of Civic...

No such thing as plenty of ground clearance.

If you got a vehicle with 20 inches of overhang from a set of rear wheels, it may scrape while trying to load. You want ramps. Don't try to cheap out and fail to get the proper equiptment.

So are we got to get extended ramps for low ground clearance vehicles as well as for long wheel base units?

I would recommend it yes. There is nothing worse than having inadequate equiptment, that kills any good will your company might have with the shipper if you cannot load dub wheels...

I appreciate your attention to the problem at hand.

I'm going to have to let others who do this kind of work day in and day out to decide if those ramps are going to do the job. 550 on them is pretty steep if you ask me.

I have literally said all I can say here without getting anyone into trouble. If you need a bigger set of ramps and you know you need them to load those vehicles, then go get em. If you do not need them and those vehicles loaded anyway eh? Why are we here? Is it the expense? Or perhaps a chance to see what others think of this whole thing of loading vehicles?

I used to work Adesa as a truck crew boss managing a herd of newbie CDL drivers (Some were veterans, I leave them alone or perhaps introduce them to computer push button trucking...) and saw all sorts of cars and trucks being loaded and unloaded on all sorts of vehicles all the time for years.

That does not qualify me to say this set of ramp or that set of ramp because that was not my work. Do you understand? I offered a opinion that if you need bigger and longer ramps, go get em. Otherwise do the best you can.

Thanks for all at anyway. The problem is that i sit here in front of computer and got to make a decision if drivers needs it. The driver is not experienced yet and i haven't seen the process from the side when Silverados were going on the trailer so it is hard for me to decide if current ramps are good or we got to get something different.

Ugh. Sounds like another day in the office.

I guess if you have the money to burn, buy em. If you don't wait for the call demanding repairs to the vehicles that scraped. Eitherway you lose right?

I like decisions, but I hate the ones that are damed if you do and damed if you dont. You are still damed. =)

Good luck which way you choose.

That was my first trailer and yes that lift should have no problem lifting even a 3500 truck. As far as clearance you should pick up a set of 14 foot ramps. That should take care of nearly everything out there but there will still be a few cars that you may need to put some boards down for. Nissan GT-R comes to mind
