Hey guys I've got a couple questions regarding pre trip inspections at the CDL testing site.. I'll be taking mine in a single cab one ton Duramax with a 40' GN.. What would be the non obvious differences in the pre trip compared to a semi tractor trailer??
I've done some studying and know to be precise and explain what I'm looking for and what I'm checking..
Would more or less want to have a list from some people who have taken there tests in roughly the same combination!
Im in Oklahoma as well if that matters.
Thanks!

Catwalk should be about it.

Your vehicle has hydraulic brakes instead of air brakes. That is the biggest difference.

The in Cab pre trip test for the service brakes is to push on the pedal to make sure it doesn't go to the floor and remains firm. You are going to have to know the location and operation of the brake away battery, the function of the brake away pin and that it is secure to the truck. If you have chains they will need to call out that they are secured. Call out that the locking pin from your goose neck to the on the Ball in your truck is in the locked position.

This will also be a restriction on the license. If you ever want to go drive a semi you will need to fully retest again with a vehicle with air brakes. I suggest seeing what it will take to rent one (from a local cdl school) and do it fully the first time.clausland Thanks this.

I'm aware of that part!
Appreciate it man I'll make sure I do all of this.
Have a plan to in the future! Already have my permit with an air brake restriction on it. Already have jobs lined up ready to go with my duramax once i get the cdl in my hands! -
Here's the truck I'll take it in.

Rent a full truck and trailer from a CDL school and get the fulkl class A without restrictions.
With that truck and trailer, you wil have two restrictions that will make it almost impossible to use that license for another job.
1. No air brakes.
2. No 5th wheel.
The sad thing is, from a quick search, it looks like a 40 ft gooseneck will be more than 10.000 gvwr. You'll be going for a full class A in that case, so might as well do it without restrictions.
