Wow, I didn't know they had car carriers at one point! I wonder how long that lasted...

From what I was told at one point by a swift mechanic. They stopped doing car carriers because it was a maintenance nightmare trying to keep up with all the lifts and stuff. Not sure how long it lasted though.

Swift was hauling cars with enclosed trucks and trailers. Fancy BMW and Mercedes. They had Argosy cab over stinger units 8 car capacity. Swift has some 28 foot trailers they used on Costco account in Salt Lake City along with 4 axle tractors. Swift also acquired some pups when they purchased A&S Trucking years ago. They had the old man on the back with a six shooter in each hand. Swift also hauls Sprinter vans on 53 foot wedge trailers, Two trucks run together, one sleeper and one day cab, and on the return trip they load the day cab and trailer on the sleeper tractor's trailer and haul the second tractor-trailer back for another load.

Remember correctly they were getting 5 or 6 in a 53 van. Claims were insane!

Mike2633 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

Saw a swift pup the other day in the bronx over on southern blvd and westchester at about 5am. This one didn't look like it belonged in a museum though

Look in the woods, the median, the ditches, why would you expect to see one on the road?

Saw a long string of YRC pups on flatcars on the mainline the other day. They packed them in, must have added new 5th wheels on those flats. Between that and the power-contractors doing linehaul I wonder how long until LTL goes through some changes.

Meanwhile Reddaway is hiring for Henderson, OR, which happens to be near Denver somehow. Maybe YRC is using contractor HR peeps as well.
