So, I changed jobs and my new employer wanted me to get another DOT Physical. Sent me to this outfit called World Wide Drug Testing and the doctor said my blood pressure was up and he would only give me a 1 year card. Then he went to great lengths to show me his equipment was working properly, even though I did not question his readings. Seemed very fishy. So I went out and bought a blood pressure reader from Walgreens...one of the best ones they had. My blood pressure is fine. So now I am wondering if it is my imagination or is there an intentional effort to force drivers to come in every year instead of every two years for a new physical? Double the clinics income?

Tou lucky he gave you a year. Normally they give you 3 months to get under control. Then when doc puts you on meds, its a 1 year card.

The doctor sends you to a specialist, one that specializes in hypertension probably. The doctor gets a referral fee. The specialist gets his $125. The specialist does it the old fashion way with a stethoscope, and 999 out 1000 read 120/80.

    It's all money.

Never trust a company that demands you get a new DOT physical, when the one you have is valid and not about to expire.

Do you think that "truck stop doctors" are a little bit more accommodating?

Think most of the carriers require the drivers to get a physical done by their doctor and during orientation. They've all told me their insurance requires it.I had a 2 yr med card that was only a month old and I still had to do a new physical.

I think those companies are just being ########. CRE, CRST and other companies accept a valid medical certificate from somewhere else.

Being difficult for no reason is a trucking industry value.

Then they wonder why they can't meet their quota on hiring drivers.I imagine many fail during the physical. With all the laws in place I would think companies would ease up on things if they can but most do not.
