Your largest expense will probably be food Taximan. Eating 3 squares at the truckstops COULD run $30-50/day. Maybe you will land with a company with small refrigerators in them. Or you can buy a cooler that plugs to a cigarette lighter for your food and some drinks. To do laundry was roughly $4.50 load wash and dry plus cost of detergent and dryer sheets. If you are single no kids, get rid of your apartment and put your stuff in storage. Some guys sell their cars too. Up to you! Its a vagabond life, but if you can deal with the loneliness, it's not a bad deal at all. Hope this helps. Good luck!!

It does vary widely. Factors include how often you get home, whether you have time in your schedule to get into a Walmart or the like, how often you are able to drop the trailer and bobtail...
Setting aside your expenses at home, it's probably wise to plan on about $100 per week in incidental personal expenses. Sometimes this is meals, sometimes it's showers, or parking fees, or the rare hotel stay, or perhaps a replacement charging cable for your phone. Stuff happens, out on the road. Sonetimes, you can get into a Walmart or Target, and stock up on peanut butter and bread for sandwiches. Sometimes, you have to pump out $20 at a truck stop, for a hot meal. If you've got $100 in your pocket, each week, you probably won't starve...

oh 1 more question i saw a video of a budwiser unmanned truck delivering product. is there much fear in the trucking industry of this taking over?

Not for some time. There are far too many things that can happen, that the computer cannot adequately react to, and even if it could, the depreciative cost of the machine still far exceeds the cost of drivers. Insurance companies will have to sign off on the automation, as well.
Long before drivers are replaced, we will sit in the trucks and watch as they drive themselves. But maybe don't go taking out a 30-year mortgage against your anticipated earnings... Plan for the future as though you were going to have to change careers at any time, because turnover is extremely high, among truck drivers, for many, many reasons. Chances are, you won't stay in the business for very long - few drivers do.crazeydude and taximan Thank this. -
When i was in phase 2 i only spent about 100 out on the road in a 2 week period, get into a walmart when you can and get a few jugs of water, some pop top canned food, snack bars and trail mix. Carry enough clothes for 2 weeks but a week should get you to a terminal to do wash. Maybe only get a hot meal once every other day.

That's awesome!!! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your training! This cold of mine has set me back a bit. I also need to make sure I have my BP under control before I can actually move forward. I have been in touch with my recruiter. She said to just her know when I'm am 100% ready. Might be looking like February for me after all.Last edited: Nov 3, 2016
taximan Thanks this. -
YES! I couldn't have said this better myself. Doctors are way too much in bed with pharmaceutical companies for my comfort. I did the same thing you did about 6 months ago. After some withdrawal symptoms, I felt better than I ever have.RoseWild Thanks this.
