HAHAHA shrugged and gave me the credit.

I skipped much of highschool myself (unfortunately [in some ways], looking back) I was homeless throughout junior and senior year. slept next to a firepit or in a clothes pile more than my bed. I was partying every weekend and I spent the majority of my school nights on a laptop trying to figure out my political beliefs, my philosophical beliefs, morals & values, and drug chemistry, among other things. I was the weird kid that could get hash sent to his mailbox from the internet. Unfortunately my father (who was a great, rational, hard working man) died when I was 10 years old, and my mother was a very religious emotional woman. She tried her best, but I rebelled, I rebelled hard. I was getting my values and morals from liberal punk rock songs & train hopping folk music.

My Civics teacher one day said "Your in class today!?" He turned around and wrote "THERES NO SUCH THING AS FREE LUNCH" on the chalk board. Looked at me and said this is for you kid. I want to see you grow up to be a man someday. Promise me you'll remember this quote. I didn't know what it meant yet.

In my math class I remember kids raising their hand to tell our teacher i was cheating off of them and the teacher would say "Let him, he needs a passing grade on this"

I skipped more classes than anyone I know and slept through the ones I did attend. The individuals I idolized & all of my role models were telling me "institutionalized learning is wrong - the internet has made learning free. The system is corrupt. You do not need a title. You don't need money or possessions. Kill your ego." and I ate it up. I still don't completely regret the path I went down. Although compared to the path I was on, I have done quite a 180.

    Actually, he didn't shrug
He was the assistant football coach and I judged him to be a real ########.
So I never went to his class
At the last day when I needed his credit, he didn't bust my balls.
He handed me two videos, told me to go to the library and watch them, and he'd test me on them.
    Said if I got a 70 he'd pass me.
I watched them, then got the test
All on his time he freely gave and had no reason to.
When I got the test, I knew I had been duped.
The test had nothing to do with the videos.
    I was clueless.
Guessed as best I could, knowing he couldn't wait to tell me I'd failed.
When I handed him the test, he smiled, wrote 71 on it and circled it without ever looking at the answers.
Then he said congratulations and walked away.
I've been real careful how I judge people ever since Mr Johnson.
And I've never forgot the teacher I never knew.

    Yes
But they're playing catch with their kids at night in their yard
    Fishing at night
    Golfing on Saturday with buddies
Making it to their niece's wedding
Getting up A 6 every morning and done with work at 4:30
Having beers in the garage with their neighbor while they tinker with the car
Watching their 54 inch cable TV from their couch
Getting full pay for ALL holidays
Getting sick pay, just call in and kick back. Etc.....
Sometimes even a win is bittersweet.

    Not necessarily.

There's a lot of college educated baristas and waiters out there. I know, I was such a folk a few decades ago.

I eventually took my college education and did a "career" in overseas sourcing. This is after driving a truck on summers in the late '70's to work my way through college (remember when you could graduate with less than $20K in student loans?).

I got back into trucking in '11, after my import business failed. I'm making about the same money now with a fraction of the stress. Next week I officially become an owner operator and I will be making more money than I ever have.

I LOVE my job. I only wish I had stayed with trucking in the first place.

I get all those things. They work 50 weeks a year. I work 30 or less. But the biggest thing, you would be hard pressed to find someone with less stress in their life or more happy with the life they live. Imo, that's the biggest win.

I'm just saying there's a trade off sometimes
    Maybe a price
I matters to some, not so much to others.
    A lifestyle choice.
