    Most of the answers that I've gotten in this thread is of people suggesting that I get my own authority. So is the consensus that it would be easier for me to get work under my own authority than to get on with another company because of the accident?

    Most good companies won't take you because their insurance would jump and you would be seen as a libality. It also depends on the accident. Before going any further, try and get some insurance quotes to put things in perspective.
