There was a road service number if we had a blow out or something that we could call, but if there really is a problem the best way to handle it is tell the boss and then call the company shop and if a truck needs a road service the company shop makes the arrangements. If service doesn't happen then call tell the boss and have him call the shop in other words kick it up the line make it management's problem.

Now if managment says call road service then you call road service, but managment didn't say call road service and get all the tires replaced, no no no the shop makes that call at the end of the day and by the way, I've never seen our shop go "oh that tire is still good" even if it isn't. Everytime a tire is worn or going bald or needs to be replaced they do it. Our shop does tires well that is one thing they do, do good and so if the shop says a tire is still good chances are it's okay, GFS has actually put a lot of time and money into the companies tire program the company has like a NASCAR set up of for tires at the division fleet garage there all there mounted balanced on rims and ready to go 1-2-3. They have tractor tires trailer tires the whole 9-yards, if he was worried about tires the proper thing to do would have been to call the shop ask them when his truck was due for a PM and let them know he needs tires and let them call the tractor back to the main motor pool and have the fleet garage inspect and make the call on tires.

2 PM's ago I told them I needed new steer tires and when I got my truck back, guess what I had? That's right two brand new steer tires. So it's not like the company doesn't want to do tires, it's just someone went down the wrong path.

I would have thought the tire people would have asked for a PO # or something, but I guess not up drivers calling in, wants 10 new tires charge it to the GFS account good to go.

I have both our road service 800#s and our account # and know how we determine po#s---So I could order 18 brand new ones....and since everyone in the family knows I would never do such a thing--is exactly why I have that info--and if one of our supertruckers did...they'd be out of work in a few weeks---just long enough for the check they were due when they got back to cover their arrogance....;)

That PO # was my first thought when I read this. Unless the driver is possibly teamed up with the tow/garage, for some nefarious reason. I see no logical reason why the outfit that put the tires on the truck, shouldn't have to eat at least part of the cost of this mess.

That's.. not funny, but hilarious. I can't even imagine looking at the boss with a straight face after him hearing that news. That's one he will remember.. Lol! I laughed out loud and even told the wife.

As a Company driver. I WOULDN'T EVER think to call road service. Before getting permission from the shop.
Because the SHOP would come out and do it themselves, OR would call road service THEMSELVES. That's up to the shop and management.

FIRE THE DRIVER. Who did it.

Yes you call the shop first and let them make the proper arrangements if they don't then I tell my local management and they can make the proper arrangements, i.e. they can call the shop on my behalf, or call road service them selves.

The only thing is, that some of these folks will just let a driver hang, without any idea of what is happening. I know that you can be tempted to do stupid things, when you are frustrated and pissed because you know you're losing money.
But that still doesn't excuse this much stupidity!

My local management, is the shop. Its the owners, for profit shop.
Let them disturb the boss while he's under a customers truck.
Because I'm broke down. My dispatcher won't even call him....they let his secretary\ shop manager tell him the bad news.

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

The dock dummies were kind enough to leave me with a 3200 lb skid of batteries on the tail of the trailer for me to move around all day.

I was NOT a happy camper.
