New gear oil for trans/diffs is something that gets put off sometimes. At least after doing it you'll know it's done and can stick to the regular PM schedule after that. I would do it at a place like speedco where you can watch and witness everything happening the way you paid for it,,,,, ;synthetic oil is not cheap and I cringe at the thought of changing gear box oil at a TA/Petro...
LS is a different animal in itself, and not a bad one at all but if staying close to home is a big goal of yours then yea hauling for an outfit that has local contracts doing some type of Niché work would probably satisfy that goal better...

Check out Loggins Logistics out of Jonesboro, AR. They are flatbed co. Good people and will Lease trailers and front you for rigging. I know they are looking to open a facility in TX if they haven't already. I used to be a truck owner and we leased onto them before I sold out. If you want to check out load boards, I use Truckloads (by Trucker's Path) and 123Loadboard as my primary options for finding backhauls. 123Loadboard requires a subscription after 10 searches for the day. Truckloads allows brokers to post rates as an option, so sometimes you can nail a high paying load (although some if the posted rates are an embarrassment).
Plug in options for equipment and other search features to see what's available. I run a 48' flat to the oil patch, and use these load boards to get backhauls to my home base of OKC.
Other load boards that I have used are from TQL, UTI, and Landstar.joseph1853 Thanks this. -

I went to 123Loadboard and there requiring me to get a 10 day trial before they'll let me see there stuff. requires credit card info and such. Is there something I'm missing?

I would checkout central freight lines.they might have an age restriction for your truck don't know. If you want home time I would do like earlier post said check in to pulling containers off the rail yard or ports
