I've been having some issues with the fan/heater control on my 2006 W900. When I first start out in the morning, every once in a while the fan will not run at all. Sometimes after a while it will start working after I leave it off and I try it again. I've shut the engine off and turned it back on and that has worked a couple times as well. Last couple weeks it has not acted up at all. Now this morning I've tried to get it working but still nothing after a half hour. Finally shut it off and back on and now it's working. When it acts up, the center green lights for the bunk on/off and recirculating light just flash and you can't turn it on or off. Only thing dealer suggested is that the dash might need an update? Could that be the problem? Any ideas of what it could be or where to start checking? TIA
Help Please! Fan/heater control on '06 W900

Find out where the relay is for that circuit and check there .

Turn fan switch on listen for relay to click> no click> swap relay, still no click still> check switch, apply volts directly to wire from switch to relay if it comes on then bad switch, still no click bad ground? While at the relay you could apply 12 volts to the motor to see if it makes it come on but if you are not sure which one of the relay tabs goes to motor then you might not want to do that.
Turn fan on listen for relay to click> clicks but no fan> directly ground fan motor at wire and apply 12 volts. No work? bad motor, works? reapply factory ground, no work bad ground, works bad switch...
Seeing that the problem is intermittent I would apply volts at both places several times trying to replicate the problem.
If this sounds like nothing to do with your setup please ignoreI have old equipment, just saying what I would do right or wrong I don't know.

Either your fan motor is worn out or the resistor is bad. The resistor is located at the bottom of ducting about center of firewall. Kinda hard to get to on those later model w900,s. Also pull panel where fan switch is to see if plug has melted. That is a flaw in that system. There is an update plug.
Studebaker Hawk Thanks this. -
If it works on high speed, and no other speeds, it is likely the resistor as specified above. I would check that first.

Thank you far all the replies. Might be next week before I will get a chance to dig in to this truck, but I will report back when I figure it out.
