Can you run that by idling or do you need to have a generator?

The dd15 and 16 have a pretty good track record. Imo, the problems folks run into is because of poor maintenance. But when buying used, especially with a couple hundred or more thousand miles on it, you have no idea how well it was maintained. The feeling i get from looking at different company threads on ttr is even the big fleets haven't implemented a good maintenance program for the emissions systems. Because of this, if i HAD to get an emissions truck, it would be brand new. A used one is just way too much risk. It's not like the old days where the worse case scenario on a used truck was doing an inframe for 4500ish.

Only 2 ways to go here in my opinion and I do have both. Either go 99 or earlier and eliminate emissions and ELOGS or go with a new glider.
Eliminating the emissions and ELOGS makes it worth while to do all of the work on the older trucks.
I have a 99 379 with over 2m on the clock, that has been rebuilt from front to rear but it has cost as much as a new truck to do this. I also have 2 gliders that I have bought within the past 18 mos. If your not mechanically inclined and your not worried about Comifornia or ELOGS then this is the way to go.

3406e is capable of ELDs so that's a nice middle ground as well if one ever decides to later add ELDs or to a potential buyer.

I will stick with my 1999 Redtop N14.. Not worrying about any of it. If I do have to choose I would want the ELOG vs having to use DEF. ELOG wouldn't hurt my operation all that much.
