Electric cooling fan failure most likely.

I doubt it. He said he was driving on the highway when it happened. Should have been plenty of airflow through the rad. I'm thinking plugged rad, stuck thermostat or worn out impeller on the water pump.

Radiator blew. 100 that day. Could not see temp gauge. Cover by steering wheel. I have a warning if my WW fluid is low but NONE if engine is hot.

I don't want to replace the engine if it doesn't need it. My question is. Could it be that I just need new heads.

Crazy there's a warning for washer fluid and not coolant temp.

I'd keep pull them heads and tear into it. Does that guys offer still stand after you start to pull it apart?

I'm not touching the engine. It's dirty. Remember, I'm back in the office again. If I didn't have to pump my own gas I wouldn't.

170,000 miles... I wouldn't put a new top end on a high mile short block. You'll have way more money into it than it's worth.

What's the rest of the vehicle like? If it's mint and/or has sentimental value, I'd try to find a low mile junkyard motor.

Otherwise, I'd probably just send it on its way.

BTW... what did you spend $4 grand on? That's a lot of money to put into a 99.

Thought about that after I posted that. Guess I shouldn't post before I am totally awake. I just remember that part being a hot seller in my previous life as a Parts Mgr.

Do a compression test to make sure you still have good compression and to locate any problems. Then do a pressure test to make sure that is working right.

Mechanic offering 100 bucks more than what junkyard wants, he either wants Jeep for himself or knows what is wrong and is going to fix it and flip it.
