I just finished my cdl training program and took a 1 year contract to pay it off. I signed with my school that if i left early i would pay for some of the school training and the cost of the motel for the amount of days i was staying. There was a 3 days grace period but after that i was liable.
Im guessing it is really up to the company if they make you pay the few hundred dollars.

If i was you id do the oil gig first. A job paying $600+ a day is a rare opportunity, and if you jump on the gravy boat with a 1 year contract like i am, from what i understand youl be making chump change the first year.
    Good luck with you decision.

If you are still in school you will just have to pay back part of it. No big deal. If you make it through school and get hired and start taining at a company than you will have to pay the whole cost. Again no big deal. At that point there will be something on your DAC. But it will just be the name of the company and your employment dates.

I think one of the mega reported a future driver as "quitting, no notice" be cause he didn't show up for the company orientation which he committed to start.

You just have to make a decision, oil or trucking. Work some cappy job until you how one way or another.

You can ALWAYS start trucking later. This industry ALWAYS needs more drivers. Go do oil.

If at some point you made $600 plus a day how can you need to catch up on bills? That's like $170,000 plus a year packing a lunch pail! Is the guarantee they will call offering that what if another guy trying to "catch up on bills" will do it for $200 a day. What if the guy who was making $800 a day decides he will take a demotion to take your $600 a day job so he can catch up on bills? What if it booms for 12 months and crashes? Back in same situation with 1,000's of others. Why even mess with the megas? Lots of options out there. Best of luck to you.

I hear they pin you down on your belly.... Then there's this 2"x2" square piece of 8" timber that they sledge into your ###... I'd be careful! Not my kind of suffering.

You'll be on the hook for the money, and you'll have to mention you quit during orientation/training on applications . If you do start the process of hiring on make sure you finish the drug test portion of her hiring/training process to avoid the potential of making someone think you left cause you wouldn't pass one.

If you get your cdl rolling and you get the call just tell whoever is training you that you've had a family emergency.

Which trucking companies are calling you?
Get the CDL now because you can always go back to the oil fields and have that cdl to fall back on if needed.

Well the decision is yours.me personally if I knew I was going to work the oil fields I wouldn't go in debt for a cdl the trucking co.will be there. But that's me I don't go in debt easily just so I can have a cdl.its my understanding training can run several thousand dollars. If wasn't sure I wanted to drive I would find different work and wait on the oil .if you got your cdl and quit in three months your on the hook for the money then if you decided to return to truckin in a year or more you'll probably have to go thru training again.
