I'm curious what you did not like the HH-66? You are applying it to both the patch and tarp and letting it dry/tack before putting them together right? That should only take a few minutes.
How to repair TARP?

Yes, I've followed the method that pretty much everyone uses. Clean the hole, let it dry, brush it on the patch and tarp, let it dry a few minutes, stick it together, and press it down. I'm not satisfied with the edge adhesion, or application method. Once you get into larger patches you're dumping it out of the can and hoping for the best, and once a can is open it's only a matter of time until evaporation renders it useless.
HH-66 works, but I want something that works better.kylefitzy Thanks this. -
This is all I have been using for almost 2 yrs now. Quick easy and surprisingly,.. tough durable and lasts. I still have 2 yr old repairs holding up great.

The way I do it is brush a thin layer to the area I want to cover. Could be a large tear or small hole.. what ever, this works great. Let the flex seal sit for about an hour or till is gets tacky. Then start covering the repair with gorilla tape. Then brush another thin layer over the gorilla tape. Fully cures in about 24hrs.
Cheapest easiest and pretty durable repair method I have come up with.
