The drivers at the flatbed division are a great group of guys but are slowly jumping ship and finding other jobs. Because the miles aren't there anymore. The drivers have been working very hard at this division for about 12 years. It mainly was paying the bills.
I heard they were hiring at the van side.Last edited: May 28, 2016

As of now the UPS Stockton Flatbed division is down to nine guys. The Stockton Ferguson pipeyard guys have said they are closing January 2017. We don't get too much Intel from our office.
Everything is a need to know basis. So since this went down, Ferguson is only giving us anywhere from 2 loads to 5 loads a day. You have to wait all day to be loaded because they are not only slow, but they load broker trucks first.
It's okay to work here, but it's a struggle getting miles. They gave up getting us coyote loads because they mainly go back east. They bring all backhauls back close to the area, because they are only concerned about covering the ferguson loads and not you or your miles. We have gotten a large pay cut in miles and is affecting staying above water.
They say it will get better after they close but who knows for sure. They could just say you are welcome to move back east to another ups facility or cut us lose.
They are not observing the new piece rate california law that is supposed to be in affect April 2016. Unless they got an extension. We are not told.
They pay us .46 per mile with first tarp 40. They do not have fuel bonus. We are paid zip code to zip code. We are not union. You can get one day layover of 70 dollars after being out a full weekend. You get 25 dollars strapping lumber but dont get paid strapping anything else. So its a work for free deal. You get detention pay and breakdown pay after the first two hours on duty. This year they came out with a 500 dollar safety bonus before taxes. Only after six months of no csa violations, no accidents, no injuries, no tickets.
The dispatcher does not work or nagotiate with a driver. It is what it is. Maybe it's out of his control. It is sad that they are not working harder to get us better miles. The backhauls kill our week, because the extra time it takes, then only coming right back to this area.
Several drivers have been told by the area HR manager and this Division manager to find something that makes you happy.
I always had thought if the employees are happy with miles, good pay, home time, then the employees give back 110% including driving safer. Good luck out there.Last edited: May 28, 2016
