I live around Springfield, MO. and know there are a few trucking companies locally to me.
What companies would you all recommend for someone starting out in this area? I do not currently have my CDL. I have driven in the service so I have experience with large vehicles, trailer, air brakes etc. I was a 91B while in.
Is it better to attend a company sponsored CDL course or take a private course then try to find a position?
Thank you for your time. ( I've heard horror stories about Prime so they are off my list at the moment )
In Springfield, MO. Need advice...

Picking a CDL school is best decided after you pick a trucking company. Some companies prefer certain schools or paths into the company. Others just want a CDL & Medical Card.
I strongly recommend you concentrate on finding a company to work for before deciding on CDL training. Your success in the industry is largely decided by finding a company that suits YOU. I also suggest you talk to current drivers at the trucking companies in your area. Go to their yard or search by company name on this message board. Evaluate their opinions based on your judgment are they complainers or "nothing bothers me" types.TequilaSunrise and lar.308 Thank this. -
Prime is probably a better than average starter co.
This is a difficult trade to break into. You're going to have to start somewhere and it's not going to be ideal.austinmike Thanks this. -
Transland is a solid company just up the road from you. I'm not certain they take new cdl holders, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
